Transportation Manager

Description: This is a professional, highly responsible administrative position providing direct supervision to the Assistant Transportation Manager, Shop Supervisor, and driver supervisors. The Transportation Manager is the leader of Eitas’ transportation services and Transportation Department (DOT). The Transportation Manager is the communications liaison with other Eitas departments and the Deputy Director of Operations (DDO) as well as stakeholders. This position will ensure a high quality, integrated and person-centered approach to transportation for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities supported by Eitas.

Location: Kansas City, MO

Salary Range: Starting Salary Range $78,000 – $104,000

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Safety First! Collaborate with the Safety Coordinator to ensure that transportation department staff have clear expectations for safe processes and procedures and adhere to those processes and procedures.

  2. Collaborate with the DDO to ensure a high quality, person-centered approach to transportation for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities supported by Eitas.

  3. Collaborate with the Assistant Manager to ensure that overtime is kept within or below the budget allocation.

  4. Support the DDO and DOT in initiating and maintaining business operations and services that result in customer satisfaction, personnel satisfaction, service compliance, organizational stability and timely response to changes in the intellectual and developmental disability field.

  5. Facilitate DOT operations for Eitas to fulfill Missouri DMH contract requirements and all state and federal regulations.

  6. Participate as a member of Eitas management team. Advocate for drivers and DOT as necessary. Provide recommendations and feedback concerning operational aspects of the organization.

  7. Directly supervise the Assistant Transportation Manager and Shop Supervisor and provide a system of checks and balances for them. Evaluate the performance of direct reports on a timely annual basis.

  8. Participate in the development and implementation of eitas’ Quality Assurance (QA) philosophy, plan, procedures and processes in conjunction with the QA Department. Oversee the utilization of information and performance improvement activities of DOT.

  9. Uphold Eitas values and ensure values are promoted and practiced both internally and externally. Identify conflict, encourage team solutions and work toward resolution with a positive plan of action. Promote team building, positive attitudes and approaches, and healthy interpersonal interactions and relationships.

Skills Required:
  1. Ability to instruct, direct and evaluate employees

  2. Strong knowledge of FTA regulations and transportation safety regulations

  3. Strong knowledge of OSHA policies

  4. Strong knowledge of management best practices

  5. Proven customer service skills

  6. Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance requirements

  7. Basic computer skills for word processing, database management and using GPS tracking software

  8. Effective verbal and written communication skills

  9. Ability to show care and sensitivity to the special needs of our clients

  10. Ability to maintain confidentiality

  11. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and management

  12. Must present a professional, business-like manner and appearance

  13. Considerable knowledge of and experience in management and supervision, human resources and labor and employment laws

  14. Working knowledge of interviewing methods, principles and techniques

  15. Ability to collect, organize, and analyze information to make effective and efficient program decisions

  16. Ability to organize projects, prioritize workflow and complete multiple tasks

  17. Must demonstrate ability to exercise sound judgment, initiative, and tact in dealing with management, staff, and all required contacts

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Management, Logistics, Automotive Technology, or closely related field (master’s degree preferred). A combination of training, education and work experience performing similar duties may also be considered.

  2. Seven to ten years of progressively responsible supervisory experience with at least three of those years in upper level or executive management.
