This position is under the general direction of the General Manager and is responsible for a wide variety of tasks and duties related to scheduling and planning of Topeka Metro’s service and routes. Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Analyze routes, develop bus route schedules, prepare headways, create bus operator work assignments, perform run cut, and evaluate costs of new or modified service.
  • Ongoing monitoring and monthly reporting of service performance and quality of service.
  • Conduct research and data analysis in support of determining transit services and schedules.
  • Act as agency’s contact with the planning and development community in the service area.
  • Plan and attend public hearings regarding service changes.
  • Develop and/or assist in the development of short-term and long-term plans.
  • Develop and analyze transit service alternatives, improvements, and service delivery methods.
  • Assist in the purchase, construction, and implementation of capital assets.
  • Collect, organize, analyze, prepare reports, and maintain statistical passenger data used to determine trends, problems, or opportunities for improvement in service changes.
  • Gather, maintain, analyze, and report all ridership data to the National Transit Database, General Manager, and Board of Directors.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Familiar with local, state, federal laws and regulations governing public transit system operations.
  • Knowledgeable in transit operating principles and practices.
  • Experience working with or ability to learn the following software: ArcGIS, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Creative Cloud. Prefer experience with Remix planning and scheduling software and CAD software.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in transportation or related field.
  • Two years of experience in scheduling, planning or related field.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
