OVERVIEW
The Director of Strategic and Regional Planning is the lead role responsible for the agency’s strategic, regional, and long-range transportation planning.

Responsibilities include overseeing associated plans and studies to ensure adherence to schedule, budget, quality, and timely delivery, as well as overseeing budget to ensure adequate resources are available to successfully carry out the programs; managing and supervising staff and resources; ensuring strong communication and coordination between all aspects of multimodal transportation planning. The role is also responsible for preparing and providing staff to serve on regional transportation committees and organizations.

Essential duties include: (not limited to)
  • Responsibility for all management and oversight of projects and programs within the Planning and Sustainability department.

  • Develop strategy, goals, and priorities. Manage initiatives and provide advanced technical guidance related processes, standards, policies, and regulations.

  • Oversees the Complete Streets program, developing planning studies to prepare for design and construction in later phases.

  • Demonstrate leadership, commitment and passion for collaboration, public engagement, and innovative thinking to shape regional planning initiatives.

  • Oversee strategic planning initiatives for the agency, including the implementation of the MOVE2027 strategic plan initiatives, and the development of Vision 2050 initiative.

  • Makes presentations to the public and community stakeholders on mobility initiatives.

  • Responsible for the preparation and processing of the JTA annual Transportation Improvement Plan (TIP), List of Priority Projects (LLOP), and UPWP (Unified Planning Work Program) submissions to the metropolitan planning organization.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The Top Candidate will be a solid technician with the ability to function with finesse under pressure, helping to continue building a strong team; be demonstrably data driven, forward thinking, and politically astute.

Must have at least eight (8) years of progressively increased responsibility of substantial transportation planning studies and programs, including experience in strategic planning and metropolitan planning organization coordination, including a minimum of two (2) years supervisory experience. Possess a bachelor’s degree in planning or closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university. An advanced degree is preferred and may substitute for one year of experience.
