TriMet is seeking a Project Manager, Zero Emission Buses!

The Senior Project Manager, Zero Emission Buses performs duties as a competent and developing project manager in all aspects of battery electric bus (BEB), Fuel Cell (FC), and charging infrastructure design, testing, monitoring, deployment, and maintenance stages. Duties include working on a range of BEB and FC propulsion, fueling, and charging system engineering tasks, requiring independent evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of standard engineering techniques, maintenance procedures, and criteria, and assisting in the resolution of complex engineering, maintenance, planning, and policy issues.

Serve as a good steward of TriMet by regularly utilizing our transit system to maintain a strong and current understanding of customers’ experiences and of TriMet’s product and service offerings.

Essential Functions:
  • Evaluate the functional feasibility, electrical and mechanical design, and system reliability of various electrical and mechanical systems, equipment, and hardware associated with future and existing battery electric buses as they relate to bus power electronics, Traction Power system maintenance, and repair. Coordinate with TriMet engineers, staff, and consultants to ensure compatible designs.

  • Assist with the administration of contracts relating to the procurement, installation, testing and start-up of various charging systems, hardware, software, and related equipment. Coordinate with systems engineering, consultants and other system and civil contracts on construction issues.

  • Provide professional engineering services in developing and reviewing the conceptual and detailed design of BEB chargers, pathways, and power requirements.

  • Prepare designs, calculations, cost estimates, documentation and public presentation material related to battery electric bus and charging system procurement, coordination and interoperability management. Experience with maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of defects.

  • Review product and systems submittals for compliance with contract requirements and TriMet criteria. Prepare documents for the maintenance standards and procedures of bus electric bus systems, installations and equipment.

  • Work and coordinate with represented staff, other TriMet engineering, planning, bus maintenance and operations staff, staff from other jurisdictions and consultants.

  • Monitor maintenance and manufacturing activities to assure contractual and manufacturer compliance. Perform field measurements and calculations to verify quantities and quality of completed work. Assist with contracts administration for management of equipment procurement, testing and consultant contracts.

  • Prepare minutes, documentation, specifications and technical reports, and review such material generated by others. Assist with preparation of contract specifications and bid documents.

  • Provide lead expert guidance to Zero Emission Program management, supervisors consultants, engineering and other support staff as required for specific assignments and within the guidelines provided by the Zero Emission Bus Manager.

  • Represent TriMet at various interagency meetings as a technical representative.

Position Requirements:
  • A Bachelor's Degree is required.

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.

  • A minimum of four (4) years total credited experience.*

  • Two (2) years of experience as a practicing project manager, architect, or engineer are required.

  • Two (2) years of engineering experience in an area directly applicable to battery electric bus and charging system procurement, coordination, interoperability and maintenance management are required.

  • Certification as a PE (Professional Engineer) is preferred.
Or any equivalent combination of experience and training.

*The amount of credit a candidate receives for prior years of experience is based on the relevancy of that experience to the required or preferred prerequisites of the job description. Experience is prorated based on hours worked. LRHR assigns and validates the "credited experience".

Salary Range
Minimum: $89,803.00
Maximum: $134,705.00
