About the Position
Join our First Transit team at CityLink Transit in Abilene, Texas. The General Manager oversees leadership and management of the transit system, including but not limited to: route planning, fiscal planning and adherence, maintenance planning and management, labor relations, and personnel management.
  • Schedules and administers fleet maintenance and assists in troubleshooting problems with equipment. Communicates availability of vehicles for service with dispatch and other operations personnel.

  • In relation to subordinates, is responsible for hiring; firing; approving salary increases or decreases; training and employee development; planning and directing the work; disciplining; handling employee complaints or grievances; and handling performance reviews. While the Mgr Maintenance is required to make personnel-related recommendations, some actions require further approval.

  • Works closely with the location manager and region maintenance management, providing status of maintenance and budget requirements. May review financial and budget variances, review repair orders or code and approve account payable documents.

  • Ensures compliance on a day-to-day basis with State, Federal, and Company requirements. Ensures a safe environment exists and that all maintenance and related activities are in conformance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Reviews repair orders. May order fuel for vehicles, order parts, and subcontract repair work.

  • Initiates and implements projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.

  • Ensures that maintenance technicians are trained on current operating procedures, are properly equipped, and are motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years in transit management with increasing responsibilities

  • High school or equivalent required/Bachelor’s degree in business, transportation, or related fields strongly preferred

  • Budget planning, route planning, labor relations, inventory control, experience in procurement and bidding processes, payroll management, scheduling system management, safety, training, and risk management.

  • Ability to blend business sense with common sense in the decision-making process

  • Computer literate with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Must have evidence of building solid relationships with supervisors, peers, and subordinates.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and continuously motivate highly effective teams.

  • Successful track record in managing budgets and/or P&L responsibility.

  • Ability to interface with using agencies, directors, elected officials, operators, and all levels of hourly and salaried employees, including senior management.

  • Must be a self-starter able to obtain successful results without supervision.
