Definition
Under direction of the Light Rail Way, Power, and Signal Superintendent, the Light Rail Way, Power, and Signal (WP&S) Supervisor provides supervision and management over wayside, power, signal, track, and passenger facilities maintenance and repair activities for the Valley Transportation Authority's (VTA) light rail system on an evening or grave shift, or as directed to ensure satisfactory supervision 24/7.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The Light Rail Way, Power, and Signal Supervisor assists the Light Rail Way, Power, and Signal Superintendent and other Supervisors, including the LR Power Supervisor, LR Signal Supervisor, and LR Track Supervisor with the oversight of the staff and WP&S facilities. The WP&S Supervisor oversees and provides direction to staff assigned to maintaining the signals, tracks, power, wayside, passenger facilities and related systems. The WP&S Supervisor facilitates the scheduling of staff and maintenance and repair work of VTA's light rail system, ordering the necessary equipment and tools, carrying out counseling and disciplinary activities, and providing general administrative support to the department.
This class is distinguished from the higher class of Light Rail Way, Power, and Signals Superintendent, in that the latter has overall responsibility for the WP&S maintenance and repair activities of VTA's light rail system. This class is distinguished from the other supervisory job classes in the WP&S Department in that the LR Power Supervisor, LR Signal Supervisor and LR Track Supervisor each have a specific unit of direct responsibility. The WP&S Supervisor, on the other hand, has general supervisory responsibilities and acts as the duty supervisor on shifts opposite the other Supervisors and in the absence of the Superintendent.
Classification Bargaining Unit: AFSCME
Employment Standards
Sufficient education, training and experience to demonstrate possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Development of the required knowledge, skills and abilities is typically obtained through the equivalent of four (4) years of experience in bus, rail or facilities maintenance including one (1) year of supervisory experience. Experience in rail maintenance or electrical systems is preferred.
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license.
As a condition of employment, each employee in this class must sign a payroll deduction authorization form providing for the deduction of union membership fees.
