GENERAL SUMMARY
Instructs new and existing employees of KCATA/RideKC. Responsible for preparing and delivering training to all departments across the agency including proper operations, compliance requirements, and professional development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.

This role may be eligible for remote work on an occasional or regular basis, subject to job requirements, scheduling requirements, onsite operational needs, and manager approval.
  1. Provides classroom training. Manages classroom activities and conducts presentations.

  2. Develops, creates and maintains relevant training materials. Plans and schedules classes.

  3. Provides hands on driving instruction. Communicates rules and regulations of the road. Provides driver safety training and awareness.

  4. Monitors performance and hours of student bus operators.

  5. Prepares training for the temporary training instructors, schedules and monitors their daily duties.

  6. Tracks Learning Management System (LMS) data for compliance and/or safety concerns.

  7. Tracks training data; monitors, assesses and interprets test sources and operator surveys to maximize training outcomes and work to reduce preventable accidents.

  8. Ensures the training department models and represents the agency standards. This includes following the training department Code of Conduct, and ensuring proper attendance, timeliness, performance, and employee relations.

  9. Participates in continuous professional development via both knowledge and train-the-trainer courses for more effective instruction.

  10. Supports recruiting evaluations.

  11. Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Work requires providing guidance and the potential to oversee another employee. This position may oversee work quality, training, instructing, and work assignments.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
Position has limited fiscal responsibility. May assist in the collection of data in support of recommendations for departmental budget allocations. May monitor division or program/promotional level budget and expenditures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience
  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Preferred at least two years of relevant college-level course work or an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Management, Human Resources, or a related field
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in Commercial Driving, Instruction and/or supervision.
  • Training experience strongly preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

Required Licenses or Certifications
Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brake and Passenger endorsements. (If do not possess, must obtain Class B CDL permit and company-paid training will be provided.)

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
  • May work in a normal office environment and/or remote office as approved. Will sometimes be required to work and/or attend meetings or events in public and at all RideKC locations.
  • Monday through Friday 8am until 5pm
  • Varied shifts including nights and weekends may be required.
  • Occasional abnormal hours are expected and required for specific events and to reach all employees.

TRAVEL
  • Travel within the metropolitan area is required.
  • Occasional travel outside of the region may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards and requires medium physical effort. Incumbents may be required to exert up to up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
