About the Position
Join the First family as an HR Manager at our Commerce City, CO location. This position manages the day-to-day functions of the Human Resources department. The HR Manager will be a key business partner with the General Manager. Also, this position will be responsible for recruiting, new hire orientation, employee relations, and leave administration. Major Responsibilities are listed below.
  • Administers driver hiring and compliance process (e.g., interviewing and driver selection; collecting applications; criminal background checks; credit reports; drug/alcohol testing; fingerprint checks; DOT physicals; TB Skin tests; motor vehicle records checks; I-9 forms). Coordinates all recruitment-related activities at the location in partnership with the central talent acquisition team’s overall recruitment strategy, including but not limited to monitoring/managing candidates within the ATS, proactively communicating open positions, local career events/job fairs, screening candidates, conducting interviews and hiring.

  • Conducts EEO/Employee Relations/Employee Complaint investigations. Advise management on the proper administration of follow-up and discipline.

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and First Transit policies in conjunction with Location Management Team.

  • Provides the first line of communications on employee relations issues, keeping Region HR informed of and/or working under their direction to address and resolve issues that have the potential to become complex and present a risk to employees and/or the company.

  • Oversees the request, approval, and processing of employee actions for the location.

  • Responds to routine questions regarding employee relations, compensation, benefits, or leave of absence, works with the region and/or corporate functional specialist to resolve more complex issues.

  • Reviews and maintains appropriate employment records and systems for the location

  • Process terminations and conduct exit interviews.

  • Process employee requests for leave of absence and works with LOA vendor; Coordinate requests with FMLA, STD, and LTD plans. Coordinate employees' return to work & fit for duty with the manager

  • Conducts onboarding orientation for new employees.

  • Receives and responds to inquiries concerning employee policies and procedures and other location functions.

Qualifications
  • 5 years of experience in HR functions preferred. Previous experience in a recruiter role is a plus

  • Union experience preferred

  • General knowledge of employment practices a plus

  • Team player with the ability to build relationships with all levels of employees

  • Must possess a high degree of professionalism in handling confidential information

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel
