Intercity Transit is currently seeking a Senior Planner to join our Planning Division. The Senior Planner provides professional leadership to accomplish complex transit planning activities, development projects, policy development and system analysis. Primary areas of responsibility include building and maintaining expertise of Intercity Transit service characteristics, including transit service and facility design principles and operating practices.

As Intercity Transit’s Senior Planner you will:
  • Lead, prepare, and present complex planning projects and recommendations to internal and external groups and decision makers.
  • Use a variety of complex applications and web-based reporting, analysis, and presentation tools; retrieve, audit, filter, and report on various system performance metrics including ridership and schedule adherence, system trends, and ensure accurate collection and reporting of federally required transit service data.
  • Support strategic and long-range planning projects; conduct service adjustments by performing advanced analytical work to evaluate, understand, and communicate the impacts and benefits of proposed changes for Intercity transit services primarily related to fixed route service.
  • Lead research, development, and implementation of public transit service projects, including new or modified routes, stops, and schedules, as well as new or emerging modes of public transportation service.
  • Provide technical support and represents the agency during high profile agency service and facility projects including reporting to the agency’s governing Board and advisory committees, local agency boards and councils and appointed commissions, community groups, and customers.
  • Support daily service coordination tasks including planned and unplanned detours, inclement weather events, temporary and planned stop closures, and other disruptions that may impact delivery transit service.
  • Assist in design, development and evaluation of passenger or public surveys and data gathering; participates and supports public engagement, meetings, and workshops with local officials, agencies, jurisdictions, groups, and the public to advance priority transit projects and services.
  • Prepare and submit responses and correspondence regarding community development proposals and planning processes; advocates for public access to transit facilities and service, including consideration of current and future transit routes and services, ensuring they are appropriately included in planning processes.
  • Represent Intercity Transit at various meetings, technical workgroups and forums regarding local and regional transportation and land use planning, including the coordination and collaboration of current or future transit services with local/state/regional planning jurisdictions, agencies, and service providers.

Are you the one we are looking for?
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in transportation or urban planning, geography, engineering or a related field and five years’ progressive experience in planning, transportation, and project administration including data collection and analysis (A relevant master’s degree or certification with the American Planning Association (AICP) will be considered toward work experience).
  • You have prior experience designing and implementing transportation planning programs or service delivery models that integrate land use and transit service planning principals.
  • Maintain expertise in transit service design and scheduling principles combined with a working knowledge and familiarity of regional transportation and land use planning and community development principles and processes.
  • A firm understanding of transit system design and operations, recognizing the connections of how public transit service is affected by local and regional land use decisions and the processes to effectively engage interests at all levels to represent Intercity Transit’s service objectives, adopted plans, and service development standards.
  • You will be able to work and apply experience to solve very specific tasks as well as carry forward major policy initiatives.
  • You must possess valid driver’s license and be willing to submit to a criminal background investigation, the results of which must meet the agency’s hiring criteria.
