First Transit seeks a seasoned public transit leader to head up First Transit’s Fargo, North Dakota operation. First Transit is a proud, long-time partner to MATBUS, serving the Fargo/Moorhead, area for over 25 years. Matbus provides both fixed route and paratransit operations. Candidates should have hands-on experience in both transit location management and transit operations with direct experience in computerized transit management systems.

The Fargo/Moorhead area is one of the fastest-growing areas in the upper Midwest. As the largest city in North Dakota, Fargo is a cultural center and is home to North Dakota State University and a regional medical hub. With proximity to both North Dakota prairies and the Minnesota lakes region, there are a wide variety of recreational opportunities available in proximity to Fargo/Moorhead, adding to the overall quality of life in the region.

About the Position
  • Handles all contractual services including operations, administrative and functions, information systems and provides oversight of safety, training, and maintenance departments as well.

  • Ensures compliance with all company procedures and policies.

  • Ensures services are provided within budget and action plans developed and implemented to improve operational efficiencies.

  • Maintains company and contractual assets (vehicles, facilities, inventories, tools, and equipment).

  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations (EPA, OSHA, DOT, ADA, and EEOC).

  • Analyzes, prepares, and develops budgets and forecasts.

  • Assists with negotiating operating budgets and contractual terms with customers.

  • Assesses resource needs, problems, and trends and plans accordingly.

  • Develops action plans to ensure customer retention.

  • Assures a safe working environment.

  • Provides and promotes effective communications with customers.

  • Provides leadership and guidance to develop location and company bench strength.

  • Establishes training goals and requirements for all personnel.

  • Satisfies client, corporate, and contractual reporting requirements and needs.

  • Assists in technical sales support and develops sales leads.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of recent (within the last 5 years) fleet management/maintenance leadership experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience. Demonstrated ability to build and continuously motivate highly effective teams.

  • Successful track record in managing budgets and/or P&L responsibility.

  • Must have evidence of building solid relationships with supervisors, peers, and subordinates.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to interface with using agencies, directors, elected officials, operators, and all levels of hourly and salaried employees, including senior management.

  • Must be a self-starter able to obtain successful results without supervision.
