Summary
Under the supervision of the Deputy Chief Zero Emission Technology Officer, the Advanced Technology Training Specialist (Trainer) will perform professional and administrative work training the maintenance and transportation staff on advances in zero emissions technologies. Additionally, the trainer will assist in the diagnosis of vehicles that present elusive or extreme problems. The maintenance trainer will also develop training material and ensure that the department has the latest in diagnosing software and tools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Design, develop and deliver training programs for new and incumbent Agency technicians in compliance with manufacturer specifications; regularly assess learning needs of technicians, conduct classroom training, including training on methods and techniques for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing new zero emission vehicles.

  2. Continuously research advances in zero emission technologies and develop training programs to advance technicians knowledge and proficiency with new technology.

  3. Coach, mentor, and develop staff to achieve and maintain a high-performance, customer service-oriented work environment that supports and promotes the Agency’s mission, strategic goals and core values.

  4. Analyze vehicle up-time efficiency and maintenance trends to develop training programs addressing any deficiencies in fleet performance.

  5. Continuously assesses and evaluate training programs and results, and update and modify existing class curricula and materials as needed; analyze and assess staff training needs based on operational, training, and safety issues and recommend new training programs or a course of action; assess the relevance of training programs and retires out-of-date or ineffective classes based on feedback and needs; design and develop training manuals and materials for new programs; meet with department managers and staff to ensure that training courses are accurate, comprehensive, practical and consistent with the Agency’s vision, values, mission and strategies.

  6. Mange original equipment manufacturer (OEM) software programs for the agency by working directly with manufactures to ensure that they are updated and working effectively.

  7. Create and provide periodic reports regarding the effectiveness and outcomes of training programs; provide feedback to management regarding appropriateness and readiness of new and incumbent operators to assume behind-the-wheel responsibilities.

  8. Provide training for other agencies, public entities, etc. through the West Coast Center of Excellence and other partners.

  9. Perform other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as requested or required by management.
OTHER DUTIES
  1. Provide project support and training for the West Coast Center of Excellence partners.

  2. Collaborate with colleagues and partners to coordinate and promote the West Coast Center of Excellence training.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma, GED or foreign equivalent and at least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience as a bus mechanic with at least two of those years working on zero emission busses; Graduation from a recognized four-year college or university is desirable. Any combination of education and experience (or higher) in engineering or other technical discipline from an accredited program is desirable.

A valid Class C California driver’s license; must obtain a Class B Licenses with passenger endorsement within 6 months of hire and maintain Class B license while employed in this role; and the ability to maintain insurability under the Agency’s insurance policy.
