We provide mobility to residents of the city as well as tourists, taking them to and from their hotels to historical neighborhoods and countless attractions. RTA’s system includes five streetcar lines, 34 bus routes, two ferry routes and paratransit services. Our passengers take more than 19 million rides every year.

Data Analyst

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervises and manages a team and/or management processes including the full range of management duties

  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and appraises employees (performance evaluations) on their productivity

  • Delegates and oversees the daily workflow of the department

  • Motivates, guides, mentors, and coach employees on their development

  • Recommends to senior management internal promotions and changes including discipline and terminations of employees in accordance with company policy

  • Performs other related duties as assigned

JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Data Analyst is a member of the Transportation Data Science Department and supports and the RTA in applying complex data techniques to reporting, performance, and analysis of the RTA’s operations and the urban environment in which it operates.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Gather and manage data related to pedestrian safety.

  • Develop reports and work directly with Operations to produce dashboards and data-driven tool-kits to improve performance.

  • Understand and anticipate the needs of multiple stakeholders to properly support the department’s mission with data and be able to produce actionable reports in a timely manner.

  • Produce internal documentation around the data sets, systems, and processes available to and used by RTA.

  • Develop data-driven tools for different teams and departments within the RTA.

  • Produce reports, dashboards, and data visualizations in Microsoft Power BI and Microsoft Excel for internal and external reporting.

  • Create documentation on critical data sets available to RTA, both internally and externally, and determine best accessibility.

  • Record processes and best practices for data analysis in the realm of public transportation.

  • Execute SQL queries on RTA SQL databases for analysis and store them as stock queries.

  • Filter and clean data using a variety of software, recording both the processes and steps.

  • Work with other departments to locate and define new process improvement opportunities and prioritize business and information needs.

  • Use data to run a variety of analytics models to help drive decision-making for both tactical and strategic purposes, including assessments of existing service modules and process improvement.

  • Perform analysis of trends on technical data or other information (Fixed route / maintenance) that may have an impact on an area of the business.

  • Create operational reports for presentation to management for Operations and Maintenance meetings. Heavy concentration on data content and visual presentation required.

  • Develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, procedures, work standards, and internal controls.

  • Handle competing priorities to identify urgent and critical priorities relating to business needs.

  • Solid Microsoft Word and Microsoft Power Point skills are required.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Excel, SQL, Power BI or any combination of the three is a plus.

  • Read, write, speak, and understand English

EDUCATION
Bachelor's Degree (or similar training) in Urban Planning, Urban Studies, Political Science, Public Administration or Policy, Transportation Planning, Economics, Business, or similar field of study.

EXPERIENCE
One (1) to four (4) years’ experience or training in transportation, urban planning, public administration or policy, and/or community engagement with ability to build and expand upon skill level based on data analysis capabilities and skills.

A combination of experience and/or education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a two-for-one-year basis.

A typical combination includes:
Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in: public transportation; public administration or policy; community outreach, engagement, or advocacy; racial and social equity and justice; urban planning; or a similar profession.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS/DEMANDS
  • A valid Louisiana Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

  • Must provide proof of being fully vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine before start date.

  • Must submit to criminal background check, the results of which must meet hiring criteria for the role.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. (The company to determine if the position is a safety sensitive position.)
