The Regional Transit Authority gets people moving around New Orleans. Our transit services bring hard-working commuters to their jobs, students to their schools and fun seekers to entertainment, shopping areas and restaurants. We provide mobility to residents of the city as well as tourists, taking them to and from their hotels to historical neighborhoods and countless attractions. RTA’s system includes five streetcar lines, 34 bus routes, two ferry routes and paratransit services. Our passengers take more than 19 million rides every year.

REPORTS TO Assistant Manager, Maintenance

JOB SUMMARY
Performs general cleaning of buildings, furniture, equipment, and grounds.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs mopping, sweeping, dusting, polishing of floors, walls, and disposing of trash.

  • Empties small dumpsters into large outside dumpsters.

  • Makes sure trash go into trash dumpsters and metals go into metal dumpsters.

  • Picks up reusable scrap for salvage and place into proper container.

  • Cleans bathrooms, dressing rooms, lunch rooms, and offices on a daily basis.

  • Notifies supervisor of needed repairs.

  • Performs other basic routine cleaning functions.

  • Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of RTA are carried out
OTHER FUNCTIONS
  • Moves or assist in moving furniture or equipment.

  • Cleaning of charter specials as required.

  • Performs other duties as assigned in keeping with the goals and objectives of RTA.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Must be able to read labels and interpret written instructions.

  • Must be able to operate forklifts, floor scrubbing machines, floor polishing machines or any other machines that are required in doing custodial work.

  • Read, write, speak, and understand English

EDUCATION
High school diploma or G.E.D., required

EXPERIENCE
Must have at least two (2) years paid experience in janitorial duties

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS/DEMANDS
  • A valid Louisiana Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions

  • Must provide proof of being fully vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccine before start date.

  • Must submit to criminal background check, the results of which must meet hiring criteria for the role.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Work is primarily performed indoors, but must go outdoors to dump trash and handle salvage.

  • Must be able to work in various environmental conditions.

  • Job requires stooping, bending, standing, kneeling, crawling, climbing, for an entire shift.

  • Must be able to perform work with diesel, oils, or cleaning solvents used by RTA.

This is a designated Safety Sensitive Position under RTA Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy [“Non-USDOT”]. Drug and Alcohol Testing is conducted under RTA testing authority in accordance with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) regulations.
