ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Management and Procurement
  • Capability to learn and accurately follow complex US Department of Transportation/Federal Transit Administration procurement rules and regulations.
  • Ability to organize procurement information in a systematic way for financial and triennial audits.
  • Ability to understand and manage transit construction projects. (Building, Shelters, Amenities, etc.)
  • Skill to represent the agency ethically during the procurement process for a wide variety of projects.
  • Capacity to effectively monitor and control the cost and implementation of a project, either through installation and/or construction.

Grant Writing
  • Research grant and funding opportunities for SporTran, focusing on opportunities for system growth and stabilization.
  • Is competent in writing, being able to effectively convey in an exciting, competitive manner future SporTran projects for funding.
  • Ability to understand and present complex data in an easy-to-read format.

Transit Planning
  • Assists in providing professional transit planning analysis and recommendations to other divisions and departments.
  • Analyzes planning and transportation projects, including land-use policies, long-range transportation plans, and project-specific planning and construction documents.
  • Develops and makes recommendations on transit planning studies, programs, and surveys, including data collection, entry, tabulation, and analysis of technical data.
  • Assists in studies of transit routes and services, developing corridor service plans and routine service changes. Develops and maintains up-to-date databases of transit service data and asset inventories using various geographic information system (GIS) and information technology system (ITS) tools; examples include bus stop locations, bus stop characteristics such as ADA compliance, stop-level ridership information, fixed-route alignments, and the General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS).
  • Tracks and recommends ADA accessibility improvements to bus stops.
  • Assists in planning passenger amenity improvements, including examining, reporting, and developing proposed improvements and new facilities. These facilities include bus shelters, bus stop benches, trash receptacles, etc.
  • Confers and troubleshoots with Administrative, Operations, and Maintenance staff on resolving database concerns or issues. Implements timely corrective actions as appropriate to maintain the ITS.
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of transit system maps for use by the public.

Job Requirements
  • 4-year college degree in related field
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain before hiring, a valid driver's license.

  • Must be able to report for shift work on short notice when needed.

Working Conditions
  • Work is primarily performed in an office environment but has up to 35% of job performance in the field.
  • The person in this position must be able to:
