Bus: Cleans and services District coaches, other vehicles and related service areas; operates buses for servicing and maintenance purposes; practices safe work processes and contributes to the creation and maintenance of a safe working environment for self and others; and performs related work as assigned.

Incumbents in this entry-level job classification clean and service District coaches, vehicles and related service areas.

Light Rail: Cleans and services District light rail vehicles (LRV), other vehicles and related service areas; operates LRVs for servicing and maintenance purposes; practices safe work processes and contributes to the creation and maintenance of a safe working environment for self and others; and performs related work as assigned.

Incumbents in this entry-level job classification clean and service the light rail vehicles.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Bus: Sweeps, mops, steams, scrapes and washes the interior and exterior of buses; sweeps and mops garage floors, pits, District parking lots, and service areas; lifts, moves and dumps trash containers; cleans maintenance office and storage room; performs daily visual vehicle inspection, reporting defects; makes non-mechanical road calls, checks and replaces consumables and equipment as necessary; checks engine fluids, refilling as needed; replaces accessories such as light bulbs, mirrors, wiper blades and seat cushions; drives buses between District locations; operates CNG fueling equipment; operates revenue collection equipment; safely operates a variety of equipment, including folklift, ground scrubber/sweeper, and upholstery cleaning equipment; installs and replaces vandal guards; places and replaces fliers and advertisements in buses; work will not encroach upon the work of higher classified positions; performs other related duties as assigned.

Light Rail: Sweeps, mops, steams, scrapes and washes the interior and exterior of LRVs; sweeps and mops garage floors, pits and service areas; lifts, moves and dumps trash containers; cleans Maintenance office and storage room; performs daily visual vehicle inspection, reporting defects; checks and replaces consumables and equipment as necessary; replaces accessories such as light bulbs, mirrors, wiper blades and seat cushions; operates, moves, and drives LRVs within yard and on main line to move from one Light Rail facility to another; performs routine trouble shooting and diagnostic duties to identify simple problems and/or generate problem tickets; safely operates a variety of equipment including forklift, ground scrubber/sweeper, and upholstery cleaning equipment; places and replaces fliers and advertisements in LRVs; installs and replaces vandal guards; pulls operator defect cards; reports problems to appropriate resource; performs yard set-up duties for pull out operations at the main and remote storage locations; replenishes sand; and performs other related duties as assigned. Work may not encroach on that of higher classified positions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bus

Required Prior Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Required Prior Experience:
Six months of full-time related work experience in a position successfully performing janitorial and/or industrial cleaning duties or a position responsible for the cleaning, maintenance and/or servicing of a variety of vehicles.

Light Rail

Required Prior Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Required Prior Experience:
One year of work related experience in a position performing janitorial and/or industrial cleaning duties or a position responsible for the cleaning, maintenance and/or servicing of a variety of vehicles.

Bus/ Light Rail Special Requirements, Licenses and/or Certificates:
Must possess a valid Driver's License at the time of application and have a satisfactory driving record as defined by the District. Must have ability to obtain a valid California Class B Driver's Permit with endorsement(s) prior to the start of employment.; possession of a Forklift Operator Certification or the ability to obtain a forklift certificate within 90 days of appointment, if required; the ability to pass RT's LRV Operator's License exam within 90 days of appointment; pass the Ishihara Eye Test prior to appointment.
