Communication Dispatchers

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervises and manages a team and/or management processes including the full range of management duties
  • Recruits, interviews, hires, and appraises employees (performance evaluations) on their productivity
  • Delegates and oversees the daily workflow of the department
  • Motivates, guides, mentors, and coaches employees on their development
  • Recommends to senior management internal promotions and changes including discipline and terminations of employees in accordance with company policy
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Manager of Operations Control perform tasks of the Transit System Control Center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Evaluate all emergencies that occur in the field that may interrupt regularly scheduled bus operations, dispatch Street Supervisor and other RTA personnel to scene of emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate log of Daily Radio Communication by internal and external users.
  • Prepare daily reports of accidents, emergencies, delays, and alternate actions taken by the Control Center.
  • Prepare daily operational reports.
  • Initiate and direct immediate corrective action in handling of all emergencies that occur in the field, such as accidents, injury or illness to employees or customers, blockades, fires, high water, power failures, breakdowns, disturbances, etc.
  • Maintain daily radio off and on log indicating supervisors, transit management personnel, maintenance equipment, and transit police sign on and off.
  • Maintain daily records and prepare daily reports and switching of vehicles, breakdowns, accidents, supervisors on and off reports, and transit police activity sheet.
  • Receive Chartered Service orders during non-office hours and communicate with Charter when necessary; assign orders to station that would be most economical for customer.
  • Obtain and communicate periodically to field supervisors, Roadway personnel, Station Superintendents, etc., the location or movement of parades in order to provide best possible service while parades are in progress.
  • Prepare daily operational reports.
  • Provide data to other operational personnel relative to factors that could cause disruption to scheduled service.
  • Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of RTA are carried out
OTHER FUNCTIONS
  • Acts as a liaison between the Control Center and local agencies for unusual conditions or emergencies.
  • Monitors communication system operation.
  • Performs other job related duties which are in keeping with the goals and objectives of RTA.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Must have the ability to make accurate on the spot decisions
  • Knowledge of the Transit system
  • Ability to give accurate and effective instructions
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, & Teams) proficiency required
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English

EDUCATION
A high school diploma or G.E.D. High school diploma to be submitted at time of application.

OR: An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the position duties

EXPERIENCE
A minimum of four (4) years recent experience directly related to the operations of the Transit System.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS/DEMANDS
A valid Louisiana Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions

Must submit to criminal background check, the results of which must meet hiring criteria for the role.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Normal office environment.

This is a designated Safety Sensitive Position Covered under USDOT (Federal Transit Administration [FTA] Regulations). Drug and Alcohol Testing is conducted using FTA regulations.
