Basic Function
Manages and implements quality assurance programs related to vehicle maintenance. Supervises inspection of in-house and contract vehicle repairs, to ensure that METRO’s quality standards are maintained. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties
  • Provides primary managerial direction and performs personnel administrative functions of direct report staff (e.g. training, supervising, work assignments, timesheets, performance evaluations, etc.) for maintaining necessary staffing, enhancing productivity of staff and ensuring necessary department outcomes are achieved.

  • Supervises and administers on-site inspection of vehicle repairs to ensure proper maintenance procedures and quality standards are fully adhered to.

  • Provides assistance to all operating locations to improve work standards and productivity.

  • Coordinates with the Manager, Maintenance Support Services to monitor the activities and performance of each bus operating facility to identify and resolve warranty and contract issues.

  • Reviews maintenance procedures for adherence to all Metro service, technical and test bulletins.

  • Responsible for ensuring that safety standards are maintained through coordination with operating facility Superintendents.

  • Supervises all testing of new products and determines interchangeability of other than OEM parts by coordinating information with Quality Assurance Inspectors, Maintenance Trainer ASE, Technical Engineering Specialists and Vehicle Technology Specialist.

  • Assists in determining value engineering times and productivity improvement.

  • Assists in the review of maintenance facility equipment to determine defects as well as proper use and maintenance (bus lifts, washers, lube facility, etc.).

  • Assures complete records and forms are maintained as necessary and monitors vehicle maintenance system input.

  • Assists in the review of specifications for new and retrofitted vehicles together with tools and equipment.

  • Assures continuity for all quality assurance functions at operating facilities.

  • Monitors privatized service providers to assure compliance with provisions of METRO contracts, policies and procedures.

  • Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.

  • Promotes safety awareness and other employee safety procedures in efforts to reduce or eliminate accidents.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education Requirement
High school diploma or GED is required. Some college courses preferred.

Years & Experience Required
Minimum of eight (8) years progressive quality control experience with direct mechanical experience in the automotive, heavy truck, or transit bus industry; to include a minimum of two (2) years supervisory/management experience. Experience in a union environment preferred.

Knowledge & Skills Required
Extensive and detailed knowledge of quality control and quality assurance as it relates to vehicle maintenance systems. Good communications (written/verbal) and interpersonal skills. Strong working knowledge of bus maintenance/electronic diagnostic systems and associated equipment. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of SAP software desirable. Position requires a valid Texas CDL or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire date. Must meet METRO’s requirements regarding motor vehicle records.
