JOB SUMMARY
Under supervision of the Supervisor of Operations Control the Communications Dispatcher performs tasks of the Operations Control Bus & Rail Center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Evaluates all emergencies that occur in the field that may interrupt regularly scheduled bus operations, dispatch Street Supervisor, and other RTA personnel to the scene of emergencies.
  • Maintains accurate log of Daily Radio Communication by internal and external users.
  • Prepares daily reports of accidents, emergencies, delays, and alternate actions taken by the Control Center.
  • Prepares daily operational reports.
  • Initiates and directs immediate corrective action in the handling of all emergencies that occur in the field, such as accidents, injury or illness to employees or customers, blockades, fires, high water, power failures, breakdowns, disturbances, etc.
  • Maintains daily radio off and on log indicating supervisors, transit management personnel, maintenance equipment, and transit police sign on and off.
  • Maintains daily records and prepare daily reports of delays and switching of vehicles, breakdowns, accidents, supervisors on and off reports, and transit police activity sheet.
  • Receives Chartered Service orders during non office hours and communicate with Charter when necessary; assign orders to station that would be most economical for customer.
  • Obtains and communicates periodically to field supervisors, Roadway personnel, Station Superintendents, etc., the location or movement of parades in order to provide best possible service while parades are in progress.
  • Prepares daily operational reports.
  • Provides data to other operational personnel relative to factors that could cause disruption to scheduled service.
  • Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of RTA are carried out
OTHER FUNCTIONS
  • Acts as liaison between the Control Center and local agencies for unusual conditions or emergencies.
  • Monitors communication system operation.
  • Performs other job related duties which are in keeping with the goals and objectives of RTA.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Must have the ability to make accurate on the spot decisions
  • Ability to give accurate and effective instructions
  • Knowledge of the Transit System
  • Ability to communicate effectively

EDUCATION
High school graduate or G.E.D., or experience and training to the equivalent.

EXPERIENCE
Minimum of three (3) years recent experience directly related to the operations of the Transit System.

None Required

Must submit to criminal background check, the results of which must meet hiring criteria for the role.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Normal office environment.

This is a designated Safety Sensitive Position Covered under USDOT (Federal Transit Administration [FTA] Regulations). Drug and Alcohol Testing is conducted using FTA regulations.
