The Regional Transit Authority gets people moving around New Orleans. JOB SUMMARY
Install, repair, and maintain the bodywork of RTA vehicles.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Removes and replaces various body panels and parts on RTA vehicles.
  • Repairs damaged body parts on streetcars, light trucks, and other RTA vehicles.
  • Files, grinds, and sands repaired surfaces, using power tools, hand tools, hydraulic jacking equipment, electrical routers, riveting guns, metal cutting gas torch, Mig welding and band saws.
  • Refinishes repaired surfaces using spray gun and sander.
  • Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of RTA are carried out
OTHER FUNCTIONS
  • Examine damaged RTA vehicles and estimate costs of repairs.
  • Make repairs or replace defective mechanical parts.
  • Make fiberglass repairs, shrink, and straighten metals, wood working knowledge, remove and replace windows & glasses, apply body filler and smoothing and be able to use frame straightening machine.
  • Performs other job related duties which are in keeping with the goals and objectives of RTA

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and be capable of obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Class B P license if required.
  • Must be able to read and write legibly for required reports and understands English.

EDUCATION
Must possess a high school diploma, G.E.D. Vocational training in the Body Repair field is preferred.

EXPERIENCE
Must have three (3) years paid experience in body repair, painting, and body welding.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS/DEMANDS
Must possess a valid Louisiana Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A P.

Must submit to criminal background check, the results of which must meet hiring criteria for the role.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is primarily performed indoors, however, body repair personnel may be required to go outside in the weather to maintain Company vehicles, equipment, and components. Must be able to carry sixty (60) pounds. Job requires stooping, standing, sitting, bending, kneeling, climbing, crawling, and walking for the entire shift. Must not be allergic to oils or solvents used by RTA. Must be able to wear proper PPE, such as full face respirator or dust mask.

This is a designated Safety Sensitive Position Covered under USDOT (Federal Transit Administration [FTA] Regulations). Drug and Alcohol Testing is conducted using FTA regulations.
