First Transit is pursuing the management of the Lextran Transit System in Lexington, Kentucky.
General Manager major responsibilities: - Meet or exceed strategic goals, mission and operational goals of the local system and local board of directors (or other client contact group or individual).
- Working with the local board of directors (or other client contact groups or individual) in developing and implementing strategic and business plans.
- Handling all contractual services to include administrative functions, operations, information systems, parts purchasing, and inventory control.
- Ensuring compliance of all company procedures and policies
- Ensuring services are provided within budget and action plans developed and implemented to improve operational efficiencies.
- Maintaining company and contractual assets (vehicles, facilities, inventories, tools, and equipment).
- Ensuring compliance of local, state, and federal laws and regulation (EPA, OSHA, DOT, ADA, and EEOC).
- Analyzing, preparing, and developing budgets and forecasts.
- Assessing resource needs, problems, trends and plans accordingly.
- Developing action plans to ensure customer retention.
- Assuring a safe working environment.
- Providing and promotes effective communications with customers.
- Providing leadership and guidance to develop location and company bench strength.
- Establishing training goals and requirements for all personnel.
- Satisfying client, corporate, and contractual reporting requirements and needs.
- Assisting in technical sales support and develops sales leads
General Manager Requirements: - College degree in transportation, management, or related field (in selective cases, extensive transit experience may be considered in lieu of a college degree); an advanced degree may be preferable
- Minimum of 5 years of direct public transportation knowledge and experience
- Understanding of the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and its funding requirements and resources.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain working relationships with employees, clients, media, and other stakeholders.
- The ability to coach, counsel, teach, develop, motivate, and empower staff to meet their performance goals and expectations.
- The ability to provide clear and visionary strategic direction to an organization.
- Strong capabilities in planning and organization.
- A working knowledge of budgeting and financial management.
- Strong background in employee and labor relations, with direct labor negotiations and/or grievance handling experience a plus.
- Valid driver's license
