REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES:

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners Transportation Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Transit Scheduler.

General Description

Responsible for the development of vehicle schedules (trips and blocks) to ensure service reliability and cost efficiency and driver assignments (run cutting and rostering) based on service needs and current labor agreements.

Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires two (2) years in transportation planning and scheduling or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses Required

None.

Preferences

• Prior experience with scheduling software

• Prior experience with CAD/AVL

• Prior experience with performance monitoring software

• Prior experience with GIS

• Proficiency in Microsoft Suite

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

• Plans and implements community bus service routes; generates, analyzes and evaluates various bus data sets to modify bus schedules including passenger counts and vehicle running times.

• Modifies bus schedules; analyzes and edits all vehicle schedule data within the vehicle module of the bus scheduling software including vehicle schedules, trip patterns, sign codes, driver notes, map changes and other data manipulations.

• Creates, analyzes, evaluates and edits drivers' daily work assignments within the crew and roster modules of the scheduling software; creates, analyzes, evaluates and troubleshoots data for the automatic vehicle announcements.

• Assists mass transportation related safety and policies; analyzes statistical data, route mileage, time interval and passenger transfer, updating of route and schedule information.

• Participates in the preparation of the operator sign-up information. Coordinates and reviews the schedule/routing change, supervisor guides, info posts, operator paddles, public guides, operator maps, service change fliers, other schedule reports etc. and distribution to designated personnel.

• Analyzes and reports other statistical data; vehicle mileage, route mileage, time interval, transfer, route changes, and schedule information.

• Adjusts existing service schedules approximately quarterly; conducts fieldwork/ridership counts as needed/when needed; monitors on time performance of the bus routes. Ride select bus routes to monitor and evaluate route performance.

• Reviews and responds to internal and external inquiries/comments/complaints.

• Interacts with the garages as necessary.

• Prepares memoranda, documents, and reports as required; makes presentations at public and private meetings.

• Conducts research and attends training for professional development.

• Performs related work as assigned.

Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

Involves routine and frequent exposure to traffic; moving machinery.
