The Regional Transit Authority gets people moving around New Orleans. Our transit services bring hard-working commuters to their jobs, students to their schools and fun seekers to entertainment, shopping areas and restaurants. We provide mobility to residents of the city as well as tourists, taking them to and from their hotels to historical neighborhoods and countless attractions. RTA’s system includes five streetcar lines, 34 bus routes, two ferry routes and paratransit services. Our passengers take more than 19 million rides every year.

JOB SUMMARY
The role of the Crisis Intervention Coordinator is to respond to crisis and provide support, problem solving, and de-escalation to individuals, customers, and employees in crisis situations. Responsible for homeless outreach and engagement through developed partnerships with various organizations, documentation, and referrals. Respond to information about supportive activities at the RTA properties and locations and providing information and referral to intakes and others who contact the agency via the hotline. This position will complete all crisis drop in assessments of service needs and will provide supportive services to assist them into the correct system of care. This position will also be responsible for the intensive coordination and communication within the coordinated entry system process and collaborate with internal and external entities to deliver more efficient use of resources.

  • Professionally represents RTA to police, paramedics, and hospital staff.
  • Answers and always responds appropriately to the response team phone during scheduled shifts.
  • Diffuses or de-escalates challenging and crisis situations involving individuals in critical situation who may need support services
  • Communicates promptly pertinent or concerning events to supervisors
  • Documents and reports after each shift all interactions with individuals
  • Walks through properties to ensure it is a healthy and safe environment
  • Audits site compliance
  • Provides recommendations on observations for designated individuals
  • Responds to and reports accurately on incidents
  • Builds rapport with individuals and staff creating a trusting and supportive dynamic.

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management, Social Work, Human Services/Victimology or related field; experience and training to the equivalent.

OR: An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the position duties

EXPERIENCE
Five (5) years of prior experience conducting crisis response assessments.

Additional experience, as outlined above, may be substituted for required education on a two-for-one-year basis.

Must submit to criminal background check, the results of which must meet hiring criteria for the role.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times. (The company to determine if the position is a safety sensitive position.)
