Basic Function
The Director, Maintenance Support assists in satisfying organizational and departmental goals through the development, implementation, sustenance and supervision of long-term equipment support processes. Responsible for direction and oversight of Bus Warranty, Quality Assurance, Support Vehicle Maintenance and Technical Services. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties
  • Provides primary managerial direction and performs personnel administrative functions of direct report staff (e.g. training, supervising, work assignments, timesheets, performance evaluations, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining necessary staffing, enhancing productivity of staff and ensuring necessary department outcomes are achieved.
  • Manages vehicle systems to conserve energy and increase component life.
  • Responsible for functions related to technical specifications for the purchase and acceptance of transit buses and paratransit revenue vehicles.
  • Oversees fleet upgrade campaigns, retrofits and product testing.
  • Responsible for the development of compliant and measurable warranty standards.
  • Oversees the management of warranty related road calls to ensure that all warrantable items and fleet defects are formally managed to recuperate costs and reduce the purchase of high cost parts.
  • Ensures that Quality Assurance exercises organizational and maintenance oversight of METROLift and Transit/Commuter bus privatized services.
  • Responsible for delivery and implementation into non-revenue service of new support vehicles.
  • Ensures that Support Vehicle maintenance and capital costs are actively monitored and controlled.
  • Assists METROLift, Minivan and Bus contract operated services maintenance efforts to reduce road calls.
  • Oversees efforts to improve coordination and working relationships with Procurement for procurement and warranty items and solicitation and execution of inspections services contracts for bus and paratransit procurements.
  • Develops and monitors department budgets and monitor trends in performance and cost and recommends corrective action.
  • Oversees PMI follow-up inspection audits, records compliance audit and quality review audits.
  • Oversees quarterly EPA compliance inspections at all service centers.
  • Ensures that disposal of vehicles is in accordance with federal requirements.
  • Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering or related field preferred.

Years & Experience Required
Minimum ten (10) years of progressively responsible management experience in a maintenance/mechanical environment.
Management in public sector or transit service organization is preferred.

Knowledge & Skills Required
Strong interpersonal and communications (written/verbal) skills. Good decision making and organizational skills. Knowledge of labor agreement and related procedures. General knowledge of PC’s and related software.
