LAUSD's Transportation Services Division transports approximately 41,000 students daily; oversees approximately 1,700 bus routes during the traditional school year, and logged a total of 23 million miles transporting LAUSD students in the previous fiscal year. LAUSD's Transportation Services Division operates five garage facilities serving approximately 3,400 LAUSD-owned buses, trucks, autos, vans, and power equipment.

Los Angeles Unified School District is seeking a Deputy Director of Transportation to co-lead one of the largest public transit authorities in the State of California. The ideal candidate has at least four years of management-level experience in transportation operations; one year managing performance measurement data, and has earned a degree from a recognized university most likely in business or public administration, transportation management, logistics or a related field.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • Experience managing transportation-related performance metrics in the areas of budget, accounting, procurement, routing, scheduling, maintenance/operations, student ridership, auditing, compliance, safety, customer service, and human resources;

  • A deep understanding of technology and data analytics to evaluate and apply longitudinal performance management information to continuously improve the efficiency and effectiveness of transportation initiatives, programs, and services;

  • Demonstrated record of sound financial management and personal and professional accountability;

  • Experience in developing and implementing school bus transportation operating rules, regulations, policies and procedures with a large-scale fleet of 1,000+ vehicles;

  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, contracts, and trends impacting the pupil transportation services industry;

  • A reputation for creating and maintaining effective working relationships with school officials, staff, parents, students, and stakeholder groups.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and four years of related management experience; one year managing performance measurement data.
