Position Overview:
The Vice President of Operations is responsible for the development and implementation of policies and practices ensuring the efficient and effective management of the Operations Department and its respective staff. This role ensures that the Company and its programs are in compliance with all regulatory mandates in the transportation industry including but not limited to local, state, and federal laws.

Reporting Responsibilities:
This position reports to the Executive Vice President.

General Responsibilities:
  • Develops and maintains a well-qualified workforce through the practice of sound general management principles including training personnel management, performance monitoring, counseling and discipline correction.

  • Ensures equipment and bus operators begin and maintain service on time, reviews daily reports and system efficiency data concerning bus operator’s performance.

  • Develops new strategies to maintain compliance and improve service.

  • Adheres and comprehends Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) work rules to assure that labor disputes are avoided through fair and equitable interpretation and application of all contract provision.

  • Ensures maximum productivity and high employee morale through the practice of sound and effective communication with employees at all levels within the Operations Department throughout the company, and all stakeholders.

Position Qualifications:
  • Required a Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation, or a related field with 10 or more years of leadership or managerial experience. Or an Associate’s Degree with 15 years of leadership or managerial experience.

  • Must have 10 years minimum of experience in the transportation industry.

  • Must have 8 years minimum of experience in a union environment.

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in Labor Relations or Public Administration, preferred.

  • Must have and maintain a valid Driver’s License.

  • Must have strong project management skills.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:
  • Ability to understand transit system operations and service area.

  • Ability to maintain good labor relations with employees and manage employee and labor relation issues.

  • Ability to function effectively and independently, under stress and remain calm and collected during emergencies.

  • Ability to guide, train, and direct others in successfully completing their work assignments and tasks and in achieving a common goal.

  • Ability to analyze and evaluate qualitative records and identify problems.
