Description: Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry Counties. The agency is linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient commuter service.

The Manager, Safety Reporting and Risk Reduction will manage the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) 49 CFR Part 225 regulatory accident and injury tracking and reporting process. Support the overall reduction of risk to employees, customers, and contractors through Hazard Identification/Assessment/Mitigation, as well as, the development and integration, of safety programs, policies, and procedures that comply with FRA and Metra policies and guidelines. Ensure timely and accurate availability of records as required for internal and external agency use. Manage the Operation Lifesaver program to educate people about rail safety within the communities that Metra serves. Supervise staff engaged in FRA and Metra data reporting and compliance analysis along with staff engaged in the Operation Lifesaver program. Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.

Requirements:

1. Bachelor's degree in Business Management or Safety OR in lieu of a specified degree, any combination of education and experience may be substituted for the required degree that equals four (4) years in transportation/railroad management.

2. In addition to #1, must have five (5) years of railroad safety experience that includes developing and implementing safety programs and performing trend analysis.

3. Must have four (4) years direct supervisory experience.

4. Must have extensive knowledge of Federal Railroad Administration regulations and reporting requirements with emphasis on 49 CFR Part 225.

5. Must be GCOR Rules Qualified or become Rules qualified within 90 days of start date.

6. Must have excellent analytical, multitasking, communication and organizational skills.

7. Must be able to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with all levels of staff.

8. Must be able to lift and move twenty (20) pounds.

9. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Preferences: Possess and maintain a World Safety Organization (WSO) Certified Safety and Security Director (CSSD) certification preferred.
