The San Mateo County Transit District is the administrative body for public transit and transportation programs in San Mateo County, California: SamTrans bus service, including Redi-Wheels paratransit service, Caltrain commuter rail service and the managing agency for the San Mateo County Transportation Authority. JOB SUMMARY:
The Digital Communication Specialist will report to the Manager, Digital Communications and support social media outreach and engagement programs on behalf of The San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans), The Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (Caltrain) and The San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA).

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Maintain social media properties like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram

  • Maintain digital communications through apps and other digital channels

  • Regularly post service updates and develop responses to questions and concerns raised through the social media communities

  • Create written and visual content for social media, blog and video

  • Run paid social media campaigns for Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and more.

  • Maintain organic social media campaigns

  • Research and create transit-oriented blog content, including customer interviews and other related blog types

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
  • Attend community and media events for the purpose of gathering social media content

  • Execute social media communications, campaigns and strategies for internal stakeholders. Provide video production and online social video content

  • Respond to public inquiries or direct them to the appropriate responder

  • Update and maintain social media profiles

  • Provide rotating on-call Social Media support

  • Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Sufficient education, training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to:
  • An Associate’s degree in Public Relations, Advertising, Journalism, or a closely related field can substitute for up to 2 years of experience

  • Three (3) years of experience in social media communications or journalism including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, photo editing, video editing, and graphic design

  • Must be available to work some evenings and weekends

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to create consistent and meaningful content on Social Media platforms

  • Effective writing and editing skills

  • Familiarity with social media networks, video production software and tools

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs

  • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish highly desirable

  • Experience with desktop publishing (e.g. Photoshop)

  • Experience with digital photography
