Assists with inspections, testing, routine maintenance, and repairs on the District's light rail signal system, traction power substations, and electrical distribution system in a training capacity; performs a variety of manual labor tasks in the performance of assigned duties and in support of designated work crew's activities; participates in organizing and maintaining an inventory of parts, tools, and equipment in the workshop; practices safe work processes and contributes to the maintenance of a safe working environment for self and others; and performs related duties as assigned.

Lineworker top pay rate is upon completion of a four year Training Program beginning at 80% of the Journey Lineworker pay rate. Thereafter the pay rate is increased to 85%, 90%, and 95% over a maximum of 48 months in the Training Program.

Assists other Lineworker classifications in performing inspections, testing, diagnostic analysis and maintenance of the light rail traction power substations, electrical distribution system, signal system, traffic warning devices, highway grade crossings, power switch and electric lock mechanisms; receives and stocks inventory of parts and equipment in workshop; maintains cleanliness of the workshop and organizes tools and equipment; performs routine preventative maintenance of substation air conditioning units; performs duties as a switch tender or flagperson for the protection of the public, employees, and trains during emergencies and rerouting of trains; operates a variety of non-revenue District vehicles including construction and heavy equipment vehicles; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent, and successful completion of DC and AC Theory and Circuit Fundamentals coursework (5 units total) from an accredited post-secondary educational institution. Experience: One year of full time work experience performing basic electrical, electronic and/or electro/mechanical repairs and maintenance OR one year of full time work experience in a District IBEW Bargaining Unit position. Special Requirements, Licenses and/or Certificates: Possession of a valid Class C Driver's License; the ability to obtain a California Class A Instructional Permit with air brake endorsement prior to the start of employment; a satisfactory driving record; the ability to pass Ishihara Eye Test; required to obtain the tools for the Lineworker by the end of the probationary period. All employees in the Lineworker (apprentice) job classification must complete the District's four (4) year training program and move into the Journey Lineworker job classification.

Proof of required education beyond high school, such as college transcripts, diplomas, and/or certificates must be submitted at the time of application since the AC/DC courses are required, no substitution allowed.
