Summary
The primary responsibility of the Communications Manager for the Easterseals Transportation Group is to manage development and dissemination of all the transportation group’s communications and resources. In addition, the Manager will provide similar support, as assigned, on select special projects that may be funded by government, corporations, foundations, or other sources on which Easterseals has a prime or sub-contractor role. The Manager will also serve as a primary author and/or editor on resources.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Develops and implements a communications and social media plan in collaboration with directors and staff as appropriate.

    • Develops general outreach and dissemination plans with measurable outcomes tied to the deliverables in annual and/or project-specific workplans.

    • Develops and monitors budget(s) related to the items included in the communication plan(s).

    • Holds periodic outreach and dissemination review meetings to assess progress on plans and to adjust/revise as needed.

    • Aligns plans with Easterseals priorities and key messages and collaborates with Easterseals National Office Brand Marketing, Communications, and Corporate Relations teams to integrate and report project results, findings, and benefits organization-wide.

  • Directs and manages outreach activities associated with key stakeholders.

    • Develops partnerships with public and private sector organizations to help identify, prioritize, and address barriers for people with disabilities and older adults and then share the results in print and/or electronic resources.

    • Establishes communications and collaborative relationships with contractors, vendors, service providers, and others with whom we share a common constituent group and/or area of interest.

  • Creates content and manages development and use of project-specific materials, such as:

    • Fact sheets, and information briefs on topics of relevance to our stakeholders, chosen based on stakeholder input, national trends, and funders’ interests.

    • Reports and other materials resulting from internal and subcontract research.

    • Electronic newsletters and blogs.

    • Templates and tools stakeholders can use and/or adapt to produce quality, localized products.

    • Training materials (e.g., travel training, community planning for accessible transportation, ADA transportation-related requirements, transportation curricula).

    • Prepares on an as-needed or as-requested basis marketing or informational mailings of Easterseals resource materials.

    • Develops and edits website content.

    • Prepares and disseminates messages through social media (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube and/or other social media channels).

    • Creates content and adheres to graphic design standards for basic accessibility related to readability, font, color contrast, screen-reader accessibility, and captioning.

    • Maintains photographic image, graphic design, and video files for use in publications, social media, and websites.

  • Directs production and dissemination of information and materials/products/resources.

    • Creates RFPs and solicits competitive bids from graphic designers, printers, and other production-related vendors for production of our materials and resources.

    • Prepares or oversees preparation of all contracts and purchase orders related to materials production and dissemination.

    • Monitors contractor and Transportation Group adherence to brand guidelines (i.e., logo, fonts, color palette) for all programs and centers, Easterseals, Inc., and partner organizations.

  • In collaboration with staff, directs and manages timely content posting and assists in maintaining a vibrant a state-of-the-art website.

    • Ensures webpages and related links are kept up to date.

    • Ensures that web content is written in an objective tone appropriate for the audience.

  • Executes management activities based on individual project contracts.
    • Manages timely and comprehensive submission of communications statistics for required periodic reports for Easterseals, Inc. and federal agencies (e.g., quarterly, annual).

    • Coordinates statistics and analytics reports with staff from partner organizations as needed.

    • Coordinates and tracks contractor documents (i.e., budget figures, contracts, and invoices) with Procurement and Special Project Coordinator.

  • Practices personnel excellence.

    • Maintains high standards of quality and work output.

    • Assists in creating an environment of creativity, innovation, and accountability.

    • Performs tasks in a timely manner to meet all deadlines.

    • Maintains an ability to work on multiple projects within a given timeframe.

    • Coordinates with staff who work onsite, work remotely, or who travel for work on a regular basis.

  • Highly proficient at using computer or cloud-based software including Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher) and Adobe Suite (i.e., Acrobat, Photoshop/Elements).

  • Highly proficient at using web-based platforms including file storage and exchange (i.e., Dropbox); outreach (i.e., Constant Contact, MailChimp, Survey Monkey); and Google applications (i.e., Analytics, Drive);

  • Highly proficient with website editing (i.e., Word Press).

  • Preference for candidates who are proficient in technical administration and management of webinar platforms (e.g, Blackboard); video conferencing (e.g., Zoom); and learning management systems (e.g., Moodle).

  • Preference for candidates who have media relations experience (i.e., news release, media briefing, etc.).

  • Willingness and ability to work effectively under frequent deadlines, handle multiple projects and tasks, work as part of a team, and demonstrate flexibility in accepting and carrying out assignments.

  • Ability to work in a self-directed environment and with minimal day-to-day supervision.

  • Ability to travel, as needed.

  • Must demonstrate sensitivity to people with disabilities, older adults, and their families.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Master's Degree in communications, English, journalism, marketing, transportation, aging, or disabilities services-related field, with excellent writing, editing and social media skills, and a minimum of three to five years of experience with a national, state, or regional program.

Bachelor’s Degree in communications, English, journalism, marketing, transportation, aging, or disabilities services-related field, with excellent writing, editing and social media skills, and a minimum of five to eight years of experience with a national, state, or regional program.
