We are currently seeking a Fleet Assistant Manager who will provide supervision over work groups performing maintenance and repair of Agency vehicles.

The ideal candidate will come with proven skills as a trusted leader and hands-on experience in fleet maintenance. The person in this role will be relied upon to:
  • Plan, direct, and monitor the Agency fleet maintenance and repair program and supervise staff in the day-to-day implementation of this program;

  • Coach, mentor, inspire and retain an engaged and productive team to include optimizing the resources dedicated to maintaining and repairing vehicles.

  • Use excellent communication skills while interacting with employees throughout the Agency as well as with outside contractors and the public;

  • Assist and support change management activities as the Maintenance Division integrates process improvement initiatives, new investments, and innovative approaches to Fleet Maintenance;

  • Demonstrate technical proficiency as necessary to assist employees in performing their work assignments.

  • Plans, directs, and monitors the daily operations, functions and activities of the fleet maintenance department.

  • Oversees and ensures the timely maintenance and availability of fleet vehicles; assists in the selection and procurement of vehicles and equipment.

  • Oversees maintenance and repair of communication equipment and transit control systems.

  • Supervises staff to include prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff is trained, ensuring staff follows policies and procedures, maintains a safe and healthy working environment, and makes hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.

  • Develops, implements, and monitors warranty program determining how repairs should be accomplished.

  • Develops and implements retrofitting and special vehicle maintenance programs

  • Serves as a liaison and participates in the exchange of information within the organization, with external agencies, and with the public.

  • Provides representation at a variety of meetings, events, training sessions and/or on committees; ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations and policies.

  • Prepares, reviews, interprets, and analyzes a variety of information, data, and reports; makes recommendations and presentations based on findings.

  • Monitors and maintains department inventory, supplies, materials, and equipment to ensure efficient operations.

  • Develops and/or assists in the development and administration of the department budget; approves expenditures within established guidelines.

  • Demonstrates regular and reliable attendance.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of and skill in applying:
  • Applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, codes, and/or statutes;

  • Leadership principles;

  • Methods, materials, equipment, quality control, and safety practices related to maintenance of vehicles, parts, systems and equipment;

  • Principles of training and supervision;

  • Principles of diesel, gasoline and natural gas engine maintenance and repair;

  • Report and document writing techniques;

  • Public relations principles;

  • Budgeting methods;

  • Customer service;

  • Modern office equipment.

Skill in and ability to:
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local laws and regulations;

  • Supervise and/or provide leadership;

  • Analyze and interpret fiscal, statistical, operational data and/or other related information and develops and implements recommendations based on findings;

  • Conduct research and/or investigations; prepare reports, presentations, training materials, promotional materials and/or other related documentation and correspondence;

  • Provide daily operational guidance and supervision;

  • Manage and administer projects, programs and operational activities;

  • Monitor and administer budgets, contracts and/or related operational measures;

  • Ensure regulatory compliance;

  • Plan and forecast;

  • Provide customer service and client support;

  • Utilize a computer and relevant software applications;

  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interacting with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

Required: Bachelor's Degree and four (4) years experience related to area of assignment including two (2) years progressively responsible leadership experience related to area of assignment; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Desired: Supervisory experience for a public agency in a unionized environment.

Special Requirement:
  • Valid Washington State driver's license at the time of hire.

  • Must be willing to work any shift. Assignment to the graveyard shift is highly likely
