The City of Laguna Beach is now accepting applications for a customer service-oriented Deputy Director of Public Works / Parking & Transit Manager. A talented, solutions-oriented professional is sought to fill this key leadership position in Public Works. The Deputy Director will work closely with the Assistant City Manager/Director of Public Works, guiding and implementing initiatives benefiting the City's transit and parking operations throughout the City.

Laguna Beach: With seven miles of City beaches and towering hills with captivating Pacific views, Laguna Beach residents enjoy some of the most stunning landscape in Southern California. Laguna Beach hosts millions of visitors to its world-famous arts festivals and beautiful beaches. Services provided to its resident population of approximately 24,000 include police, fire, marine safety, recreation, parks, public works, community development, parking, transit and animal control.

As a year-round resort destination, Laguna Beach faces significant impacts to its traffic and parking systems. Finding creative solutions that support residents and visitors alike within existing infrastructure poses a unique challenge. A unique feature of Laguna Beach lies in its maintenance and operation of its own transit system. A small, mainline system implemented many years ago to serve local residents continues to provide not only local transportation, but continuous service to the millions of visitors to Laguna Beach each year. Over 100 employees drive, support and manage the year-round Weekend and Summer Festival Trolley Service.

The Department: The Mission of the Public Works Department is to preserve, maintain, enhance the City's infrastructure and natural resources, and provide services and environmental stewardship for the benefits of Laguna Beach residents, businesses and visitors. The Department is organized into the following divisions: Engineering and Administration, Fleet Maintenance, Park and Building Maintenance, Street Maintenance, Utility Undergrounding, Solid Waste, Parking Management and Operations, Traffic, Parking and Signs Maintenance, and Transit Services. There are 57 employees in the department.

Position Requirements:

Education: A Bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration or other field related to the position is required.

License/Certificate Requirements: Due to the performance of some field duties, which will require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid California Driver's license and an acceptable driving record are required.

Experience: Candidates typically have at least five years of combined experience in the supervision of operations staff and management of parking, transit or maintenance functions.

Compensation: $104,160.00 - $156,204.00 Annually plus CalPERS retirement and excellent benefits.
