CHK America, the leading provider of public transportation customer information, is seeking a full-time Graphic Designer for its Santa Barbara, California office. Very competitive salary and benefits package, while working and living in the beautiful, "American Riviera."

This position focuses on wayfinding graphic design, as it relates to public transportation systems and service. Successful candidates have strengths in diagrammatic mapping, geographic mapping, information layout and corporate branding. Our fast-paced office requires quick creation of initial customer-focused design concepts that can be effectively developed into viable solutions for the client. Ability to professionally communicate and collaborate with colleagues and clients and coordinate multiple projects a must.

The graphic designer is a mid-level, non-management position reporting to the Production Manager. The ideal candidate is seeking a growth opportunity to work directly with advanced information designers, project managers and high-level client executives to make a difference in the public transportation industry.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

• Ability to understand specific client needs related to city and/or regional public transportation services and come up with practical graphic design solutions

• Draw from personal public transportation passenger experiences and other industry and company research to bring design ideas to the table, while effectively advocating for original design concepts.

• Collaborate with peers to create customer information design concepts that make it easier for people to use public transportation.

• Create geographic and diagrammatic maps, tabular information, pedestrian wayfinding, hardscape fabrication design, and related content.

• Have the ability to take many information elements and combine them into a single useful, aesthetic, customer-friendly information communication device.

• Be open to suggestions from clients and peers to improve upon creative and design concepts during review and final design phases.

• Other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in graphic design. Environmental, wayfinding and/or information design a plus

• Advanced skills in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign required

• Strong visual sense of good typography design and composition

• Pro-active initiative and organizational skills to keep projects moving forward at all times

• Excellent problem solving and communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced production environment, staying within budget and tight deadlines.

• Attention to detail and good proof-reading skills

Compensation:
Salary: $55,000-$65,000 Annually DOE. Benefits: Full Health Care Coverage, Participation in 401 (k) and company bonus program
