Salary: $80,387.00 - $115,000.00 Annually

CLASS SUMMARY:
This is the sixth of six levels in the Transportation series. Incumbents direct the operations and activities of the Transit system. Responsibilities may include interpreting City Code and policy for subordinate supervisors; ensuring compliance with Federal and State regulations; short and long term operational and financial planning; preparing and controlling budgets; monitoring and managing cash flow; representing the City on boards and committees; and supervising lower level staff.

Example of Duties:

TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
  • Directs staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates departmental policies, procedures, strategies, work plans, and goals; maintains, updates, and ensures procedural compliance for programs.

  • Directs, plans, organizes, evaluates, and controls the development and implementation of the direct transit operations; maintains on time, safe, and efficient transit operations and services.

  • Develops and administers budgets; approves expenditures; reviews financial statements; manages financial operations; controls operational budgets.

  • Prepares, reviews, and approves a variety of operational reports including financial analyses statements, and reports.

  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Typical Qualifications:

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):
Bachelor's degree in public administration, urban planning, marketing, business administration, or a related field and seven years experience in transit operations, including five years supervisory experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions in this class typically require):
  • Commercial Driver's License with P Endorsement

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push. pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
