GENERAL SUMMARY:
Manages the activities of personnel engaged in fleet maintenance for Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) Fleet Services Division. Staff Supervised: Avg. of 90 for each garage

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Manages and oversees the activities of personnel engaged in fleet maintenance to include overhaul, electronic service, body/paint repair, and cleaning. Administers functions related to on-going maintenance of fleet systems.

  2. Interviews, selects, supervises, develops, evaluates, counsels, and if necessary, recommends termination of subordinate personnel in accordance with established policies.

  3. Establishes and monitors productivity and quality control standards to include reliability, safety, and cleanliness.

  4. Develops, submits for approval, and monitors section budget. Takes action to correct variances. Participates with mid-year budget review.

  5. Acts as a resource to and liaison between division and various departments within DART, as well as with external contacts.

  6. Promotes established training, safety, and quality assurance programs.

  7. Prepares a variety of reports for management review such as resource allocation, budget, section activities, status reports, etc.


MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Note: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may b e substituted for the below stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.
  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Electronics, Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Transportation, Automotive Technology, Industrial Electrical Technology, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field.

  2. Eight (8) years progressively responsible experience in vehicle maintenance and/or shop environment, or related environment to include a minimum of five (5) years supervisory experience in vehicle maintenance.

  3. Ability to demonstrate a fiduciary obligation to section, division, department, and DART in handling materials and information of a confidential nature.

  4. Good writing, presentation, communication and organizational skills to effectively communicate with supervisory and non-supervisory employees, government entities, consultants, vendors, contractors, and a culturally diverse community.

  5. High level of analytical skill to find solutions to complex interpersonal, financial, professional, technical, and administrative problems.

  6. Strong PC word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software skills. Typical office equipment such as copier, calculator, facsimile, etc.

  7. Valid Texas A, , or C drivers license, no Driving While Intoxicated (DW) conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI on driving record, and not more than three (3) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty-six (36) consecutive months in order to operate DART revenue and non-revenue vehicles.

  8. Pass a physical (medical) examination, which includes a drug screen in order to operate DART revenue and non-revenue vehicles.

  9. Pass Department of Transportation (DOT) physical (medical) examination, which includes a drug and alcohol screen in order to operate DART vehicles.


REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
Reports to AVP Fleet Services

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an environment wher e there is minimum exposure to dust, noise, or temperature. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting DART's operating facilities, assuming incumbent is observing all policies and procedures, safety precautions and regulations, and using all protective clothing and devices provided.
