Job Description
Under direction, the Supervising Maintenance Instructor plans, organizes, supervises, and participates in the training of bus and rail maintenance personnel in the proper service, repair, and maintenance of diesel and gasoline powered buses, repair and maintenance of light rail vehicles (including vehicle systems related to Way, Power & Signal), and test and shop equipment; coordinates vendor and on-the-job training; develops training plans, course materials, and curricula.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is a single position class. This class differs from the next lower classification of Maintenance Instructor (Bus or Light Rail) in that the Supervising Maintenance Instructor has full-supervisory responsibilities for day-to-day operations of the Maintenance Training Center and is responsible for supervising, scheduling and coordinating the activities of the Maintenance Instructors (Bus and Light Rail), while continuing to act as a working maintenance trainer.

Employment Standards
Sufficient training, education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the above tasks and possession of the following knowledge and abilities.
Development of the required skills, knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through training, education and experience equivalent to four (4) years as a journey-level mechanic working with diesel engines, transit bus, heavy equipment and/or light rail vehicle repair and three (3) years teaching diesel engine, transit bus maintenance, light rail maintenance, electronics or mechanical skill areas and two (2) years supervisory experience in a training or shop maintenance environment.
