Kansas City Area Transportation Authority is seeking a Chief Human Resources Officer to serve as senior level policy advisor to the Deputy CEO and senior staff on all human resources issues, aligning business objectives and people resource requirements for the Authority. Provides leadership to ensure that the Human Resources function is service oriented, proactive and cost effective in overall support of the Authority’s mission and strategic plan. Has overall executive leadership and oversight responsibility for all HR core functions, including benefits, compensation, talent acquisition, talent development, employee and labor/union relations, alcohol and drug compliance, civil rights/diversity and related responsibilities and services. Working in close collaboration with the Deputy CEO and fellow senior staff, the CHRO has extensive latitude for independent judgment, leadership and actions on a wide array of HR matters.

Job requirements include:
  • BA/BS degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field from an accredited school.

  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible human resources management experience.

  • Minimum of (5) years of senior-level HR supervisory experience.

  • Knowledge/experience in implementing employee relations programs in a strong labor environment.

  • Knowledge/experience in administering and managing employee benefits programs, including healthcare, defined benefit and defined contributions plans.

  • Technical skill in all functional areas.

  • A direct, decisive, and proactive approach to problem solving; and the ability to rally a group in the pursuit of goals.


Preferred attributes:
  • Master’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or related from an accredited college or university and/or professional certification (CBP/CCP/CEBS/SPHR/PHR).

  • Experience working in an HR and/or management capacity in a public transportation agency or similarly situated government agency.
