Job Purpose
Mentor and guide the Maintenance of Way team to improve the inspection, testing and maintenance of rails and the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of rail welding.

Provide practical, experience-based support for the introduction and roll-out of best practice. Embed the new ways of working to make improvements sustainable and support our client to meet their business targets

Key Accountabilities
  1. Mentor and guide the Maintenance of Way teams to achieve business and functional objectives and meet key performance measures.

  2. Implement safety, asset performance, reliability, productivity and efficiency improvement initiatives.

  3. Support the development and engagement of individuals to learn and adopt improvements.

  4. Adhere to company policies and procedures.

  5. Observe and mentor those carrying out inspection, testing, welding and rail maintenance to improve their competence.

  6. Implement new inspection, testing and maintenance practices and procedures.

  7. Support Supervisors and others to develop, prioritize and deliver inspection, testing and maintenance programs.

  8. Define a competence framework for rail management, map the competences to roles, define the competences, develop new training material and competence assessment material. Train the trainers.

  9. Introduce new Rail Management Guides (including for welding), toolbox videos and staff training.

  10. Propose updates to the inspection and maintenance standards.


Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential
  • Relevant technical competence in rail management processes and techniques

  • In-depth technical competence in rail welding processes and techniques

  • Detailed knowledge of relevant standards and procedures

  • Good interpersonal, influencing, communication and organisation skills

  • Knowledge of operational railway environment

  • Knowledge of other functional disciplines

  • HNC/ HND or equivalent qualification


Desirable
  • Non-destructive testing competence

  • Knowledge of coaching techniques
