The City of Portland is seeking a Portland Streetcar Maintenance Manager to join the Portland Bureau of Transportation!

The Portland Streetcar Maintenance Manager leads a diverse and growing team of Supervisors, Technicians, Storekeepers, Utility Workers, and Maintenance of Way Specialists to maintain and repair Streetcar assets for the purpose of providing safe, reliable and frequent Streetcar service in the dense urban core.

Through management and monitoring of asset condition, the Maintenance Manager guides the on-going, corrective and preventative maintenance needed across the entire Streetcar system, which includes: track, overhead power, substations, platforms, facilities and a growing fleet of vehicles.

The Maintenance Manager will develop, recommend, and implement maintenance and capital investment plans and policies needed to maintain a safety-first work environment for employees and a safe and well-maintained public transit system for customers.

This position works with the Streetcar Operations Manager, the Safety & Risk Officer, the Maintenance Training & Development Analyst, as well as partner managers at TriMet, the regional transit agency, and Portland Streetcar, Inc. (PSI), the City's contractor for operations assistance. This position reports to the City's Portland Streetcar Division Manager.

An Ideal Candidate will be a strong leader with a track record of great personnel management. They will also have experience with safety management systems, transit asset management or State of Good repair training.

The following minimum qualifications are REQUIRED for this position:
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations for workplace safety & public transit safety requirements

  • Experience diagnosing, troubleshooting, and resolving maintenance problems with a variety of rail systems equipment, machinery, devices and/or safety systems

  • Experience maintaining a vehicle fleet

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with City and Tri-Met employees, managers, public safety personnel, contractors, vendors, the public and others encountered in the course of work.

  • Experience implementing effective supervision and personnel management

  • Ability to define complex issues, analyze problems, evaluate alternatives and develop cost-effective maintenance and repair processes and preventative maintenance programs.


Salary: $81,598.00 - $109,658.00 Annually
