Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) is seeking a talented Sr. Transportation Planner - Modeling/GIS to add to its Planning team.
Job Summary
Under direction, the Senior Transportation Planner supervises professional planners, support staff and consultants, carries out activities that provide direction for future transportation services and improvements, and identifies and secures transportation funds. This is the first supervisory level involving responsibility for a major functional area. Substantial judgment and initiative are essential for resolving problems and making recommendations with regard to various projects.
Ideal Candidate Statement
The ideal candidate for this position will be responsible for technical, analytical and supervisory duties involved in the development, implementation and coordination of the VTA Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Enterprise system and is expected to have direct experience with developing GIS systems and protocols for a large public or private sector agency. The candidate will be responsible for all aspects of implementation of the Authority's GIS related products and projects, including facilitating project teams, establishing project objectives, managing project milestones, supervising professional staff and consultants and implementing GIS technical guidance and training programs. The candidate must have direct experience using GIS software and database applications, including but not limited to ArcInfo, ArcView, ArcGIS, ArcGIS On-line and PostGres database management software. This position will be responsible for managing overall GIS activities and GIS-related technology initiatives of the VTA as well as developing standards and best-practices for all GIS deployments and uses within the VTA. The candidate must have a proven ability to work with a variety of different stakeholders' interests in accomplishing GIS project goals and objectives, while maintaining a focus on product delivery.
Minimum Qualifications
Training and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in transportation planning, urban planning or related field and four (4) years progressively responsible professional experience, at least 2 years of which must be demonstrated project lead experience (a Masters Degree in transportation or urban planning or related discipline may be substituted for one year of the required experience).
