POSITION PURPOSE

The Manager of Engagement manages a staff of outreach professionals and leads the high-impact public outreach and engagement strategy to engage the public in two-way communication related to all facets of IndyGo. The incumbent establishes accountability with the public, increases transparency and builds trust, while utilizing advertising and marketing platforms and tools to share the cohesive messages. In addition, the Manager of Engagement connects with riders and the broader community through public meetings at facilities and community or neighborhood events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manages and implements a community outreach program by developing and implementing a successful and extensive multi-faceted, multi-cultural and multi-lingual public outreach plan to promote and educate about IndyGo.
  • Creates, manages and oversees communications to promote IndyGo, utilizing multiple communications platforms; responsible for various external publications including writing and editing monthly e-newsletters, print newsletter, annual reports, brochures, press releases, news stories, etc., selects and assigns features and spotlights, write and edit copy, and research, interview and write news releases for IndyGo.
  • Ensures community understanding of IndyGo programs, projects and policies; participates in providing members of community with information related to IndyGo operations; organizes events, presentations, promotions and activities.
  • Develops digital and social media objectives and strategies; implements, executes and manages content; establishes a social media presence and strategy for IndyGo; generates and publishes relevant, original, high-quality social media content; promotes content and tracks analytics to gain insight on traffic, demographics and effectiveness, utilizing this information to inform strategy.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with local neighborhood stakeholders, IndyGo customers, organizations and employers to support the development of transportation programs and projects; uses specialized knowledge to respond to inquiries.
  • Collaborates with Public Affairs & Communications team members to create priorities and materials.
  • Analyzes and reports on outreach efforts through the use of reports and statistical data.
  • Serves as spokesperson for IndyGo at meetings, special events and with the media.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Develops the outreach budget and monitors and controls expenditures.
  • Complies and updates community relations database.
  • Supports other departments within the Public Affairs & Communications Division.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directly supervises one or more employees.
  • Applies supervisory responsibilities according to organizational policies and applicable laws.
  • Interviews, hires, and trains employees; plans, schedules, assigns, and directs work; evaluates and manages employee performance; addresses complaints and resolves employee issues.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Affairs, Strategic Marketing, Communication Studies, Social or Behavior Sciences or a related field and a minimum of three (3) years of verifiable experience managing community outreach efforts for an organization, which must include at least two (2) years of supervisory responsibility; OR High School Diploma or its equivalent and a minimum of five (5) years of verifiable experience managing community outreach efforts for an organization, which must include at least two (2) years of supervisory responsibility required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

  • Ability to operate laptops, tablets and two-way communication devices, office equipment, including copiers, fax machines and phones; including basic troubleshooting techniques.
  • Advanced proficiency using a computer and related technology, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, web editing platforms (WordPress), the internet, and complex spreadsheets and databases and software programs.
  • Above average decision-making, organizational and time management and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent writing skills with an emphasis on AP Style, including proficient English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Ability to anticipate, forecast and recognize patterns and trends.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries.

  • Evening and weekend work hours required occasionally; “on-call” availability required.
