The San Mateo County Transit District seeks a ADA Coordinator who will administer programs to ensure that the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans) and the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (Caltrain) comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for Title II and the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT’s) implementing regulations at 49 CFR parts 27, 37, 38, and 39.

The ADA Coordinator will assist with developing policies and projects to ensure the prevention of discrimination on matters related to the ADA for Title II and the DOT’s implementing regulations at 49 CFR parts 27, 38 and 39, as well as ensure facilities and public communications are readily accessible and usable by individuals with disabilities, plus ensure compliance with ADA and DOT. The ADA Coordinator will also develop and implement the ADA Transition Plans which will analyze the accessibility of existing facilities, stations and property and provide a schedule for mitigating inaccessibility issues, administer the plan when structural changes are necessary to achieve ADA compliance, provide guidance and serve as a liaison to internal stakeholders, public and private agencies, advisory groups and other external stakeholders in the planning and administration of ADA compliance, review proposed capital projects for ADA accessibility, assess potential architectural barriers to accessibility, receive complaints regarding ADA inaccessibility of facilities, oversee investigations of complaints and inquiries, recommend solutions, draft formal responses to complaints, prepare scope of work for contracting documents and research and develop technical specifications, ensure that the SamTrans and Caltrain websites and other customer information are accessible to people with disabilities, analyze and monitor new construction projects and website information to ensure compliance with ADA regulations, analyze, interpret and monitor applicable local, state, and federal regulations on ADA issue and keep internal stakeholders and sub-recipients informed of rules, regulations and requirements, plus perform contract cost monitoring and control.

S/he will also be responsible for assisting the cost center manager with budget development and administration for capital projects and other related initiatives, developing and maintaining effective relationships with relevant community groups, transportation-related organizations and business groups in support of ADA-related programs and performing analytical tasks to support ADA-related planning.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Public Administration, Planning, Geography, Political Science or related field with three years full-time experience administering programs for people with disabilities, plus one year of supervisory or lead experience. Must have thorough knowledge of the ADA. Experience administering an ADA transition plan is desirable. Experience with project management is desirable. Must have effective oral and written communication skills. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Must be proficient in word processing and spreadsheets.
