Job Purpose:
To lead the business sector in North America, namely developing the business strategy, service offer, marketing and account plans, recruitment (where the post holder has line management responsibilities), and overseeing the successful delivery of consultancy contracts within the sector.

Key Accountabilities:
  1. Act as the regional leader for the program management business sector, developing the business strategy, marketing plans, account plans and identifying the resources required to deliver business sector targets. This is to occur in coordination with the regional director and regional business development team.

  2. Execute the endorsed marketing and account plans including sales calls to potential clients, attending and speaking at conferences and trade shows.

  3. Build strong client relationships with a cross section of clients and particularly those where the post holder is the account director/manager;

  4. Identify resource requirements to provide the necessary consultancy skills and resources to deliver program and project management services in the region drawing from employees in NRC, Network Rail and external partners;

  5. Act as project director or manager on consultancy contracts at both the bid and project execution phases;

  6. Set-up and manage new projects in NRC’s ERP (BST) system where the Director is the project manager. Where the post holder is project director oversee the set-up in BST;

  7. Complete consultancy contracts on time and to budget with acceptable cash flow;

  8. Where the post holder has line management responsibilities, undertake competency evaluations, establish development plans, set performance goals and undertake interim and final performance reviews in a timely manner in accordance with internal deadlines;

  9. Deliver business outcomes collaboratively with employees in NRC, the wider Network Rail Group and NRC’s partners;

  10. If required and approved by the budget holder, undertake temporary overseas assignments outside the region;

  11. Together with the North American Team, foster a collaborative, professional and supportive team culture;

  12. Undertake all activities in a safe environment and in accordance with NRC operating procedures.

  • Up to date sector and client account plans;

  • Sales calls made and opportunities identified;

  • Value of gross margin won;

  • Team and personal billability;

  • Delivery of projects on time and budget; and

  • Client satisfaction.


Job Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

Essential:
  • Qualified to at least a degree level within a relevant area; (Bachelor’s degree for North American candidates)

  • Rail experience in railroad or rail transit environment.

  • Ability to relate to other people with strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Highly motivated self-starter with a passion for business development;

  • Well-developed skills in: problem solving and written/verbal communication, collaborative working and time/priority management; and

  • Strong commercial focus with regards to contract and business management.


Desirable:
  • Advanced degree in relevant discipline.

  • Network of relationships with key North American rail and transit decision makers

  • Membership of relevant professional body.
