Summary
Oversees the day-to-day performance of the Transit Division, i.e., safety, on time performance, vehicle reliability, driver performance/productivity/appearance and adherence to sound operational practices that meets contractual requirements and budget restraints by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Major Responsibilities: (Candidate may be required to perform any other job related functions requested by their manager).
  • Handles all contractual services to include administrative functions and information systems.

  • Ensures compliance.

  • Ensures services are provided within budget.

  • Maintains company and agency assets.

  • Provide leadership and support to operations to ensure attainment of TC and client goals and objectives within the established policies that have been set out.

  • Plans and Coordinates activities to ensure productivity and performance.

  • Audits and establishes conformity to established mandated regulations and policies affecting operations.

  • Complies with all of TC safety rules, policies and procedures.

  • Develops quality projects, from inception to end, on time and within mandated scope and budget.

  • Provides leadership and supervision for staff, includes supervisors and training.

  • Works to maintain the integrity of the location and TC.

  • Works as a team member with other managers at this location and other TC locations, including the corporate office.

  • Oversees and provides timely response and service to all operational concerns.

  • Works in cooperation with the Director of Operations to provide the highest quality service for our customers.

  • Monitors operating performance, facilitates problem resolution, and directs efforts to achieve continual improvement in service quality.


Knowledge of:
  • Theories, principles and practices of bus transportation and equipment maintenance operations.

  • Budgets and Cost Control methods.

  • California CHP and DMV laws and procedures.

  • ADA laws and procedures.

  • FTA Substance Abuse policies relating to the transportation industry.

  • Internal and External Customer relations.

  • Motivating employees through both positive and negative disciplinary processes.

  • Administrative principles and methods.

  • Environmental issues affecting transportation programs.

  • Knowledge of computerized scheduling systems A plus


Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises all employees at the Redondo Beach location including Supervisor’s, Dispatchers, Trainers, Driver's, and Utility workers. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and five years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience at a managerial/ supervisory level experience in public transportation or any comparable public or private organization. Possess strong track record of management success.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentages.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office software such as Excel and Word.
