The San Mateo County Transit District seeks a Senior Planner of Rail Operations who will be responsible for assisting with the development of strategic rail operations planning initiatives for the Peninsula Joint Powers Board (Caltrain).

The Senior Planner of Rail Operations will perform analytical tasks in support of transportation planning, evaluate program planning, development, and implementation, gather, compile and report on data and statistics affecting rail service operations, participate in field work and data collection including customer counts and capacity analysis and represent the Caltrain Operations at meetings both internally and externally, presenting goals and objectives of planning projects. The Senior Planner will also create reports for Monthly Service Planning committees, the Caltrain Board of Directors, the CAC (Citizen Advisory Committee) and the BAC (Bicycle Advisory Committee), contribute support to the Customer Experience Committees and perform necessary checks to ensure proper service is given to our customers, observe rail operations for regular and special event service and perform random checking on trains, stations, and equipment for Quality Assurance / Quality Control.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, transportation planning, transportation engineering, economics, public policy or related field with three (3) years of full time experience in rail operations planning or public transportation planning. Experience with railroad simulation software is desirable. Must possess a valid California driver’s license with a safe driving record. Must have effective oral and written communications skills.
