Job Purpose
To oversee the planning and execution of consulting engagements in one or more major regions of the United States including ensuring that budgeted levels of revenue and profitability as well as project delivery and quality are achieved, in an outstanding manner.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Under the direction of the President, North America, oversee project managers for all consulting engagements including technical content, budgets, deliverables, and client relationships within the region or regions assigned.

  2. Within the assigned region or regions, manage overall consulting activity to achieve the required NRC financial targets and success factors including the generation of opportunities for repeat business with existing clients and enhance Network Rail’s reputation.

  3. Work to ensure that NRC’s business remains focused, of high quality and profitable, achieves the desired market positioning, and receives the highest possible satisfaction levels from clients, especially based on performance and client relationship.

  4. Provide guidance, mentoring, and direction to technical team and project managers.

  5. Support and contribute to marketing outreach, the generation of market intelligence, the identification of bid opportunities, and help position NRC to win pre RFP.

  6. Support the positive image of NRC among all stakeholder groups (NRC Staff, Board, Clients and NR) including promoting ‘thought leadership’ and attendance and presentations at conferences.

  7. Assemble teams to staff projects at the pre-proposal stage including identifying existing members of the NRC North American team as well recruit locally based staff in accordance with agreed business plan targets in compliance with relevant NRC HR policies.

  8. As required, contribute to the preparation of proposals, with particular attention to technical content, organization charts, and budgets.

  9. Identify suitable companies with which to partner in the United States.

  10. Support accurate and thorough sales forecasting and budgeting for the United States to aid NRC budgeting, cashflow projections, etc. using NRC’s Salesforce and BST applications.

  11. Periodically, stand in for President, North America at presentations, and panel talks if President is unavailable.


Key Performance Indicators
The post holder will be judged against contributions to achieving the following key performance indicators based on agreed marketing and sales budget, and P&L for the United States:
  • Sales, Gross Margin, G&A and Net Operating income for the US;

  • Production and execution of the marketing plan for the US;

  • Sales calls made;

  • Cashflow and AR days for the US;

  • RFPs received;

  • Margin won;

  • Customer satisfaction; and

  • Achievement of broader NRC success factors.


Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential
  • Relevant first academic degree.

  • Knowledge and experience working in the American railroad, commuter railroad, and public transit industry and structures; and good network of contacts in these sectors.

  • Business development experience in US rail sector with technical and operating requirements

  • Managerial/supervisory experience.

  • Presentable, articulate and credible as a leader of a railway consultancy business.

  • Demonstrated project management experience for consulting, contract and technical work including overseeing deliverable products.

  • Highly motivated and entrepreneurial with well-developed skills in: problem solving, collaborative working and time/priority management.

  • Superlative verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative and productive manner.

  • Strong commercial focus with regard to business development and contract management.

  • Sense of humor


Desirable
  • United States Professional Engineer (PE) certification

  • Postgraduate degree in transportation or MBA

  • Experience in a consulting setting

  • Membership in a relevant professional body
