Scope of Responsibility: The Executive Director is the primary contact for the Texas Transit Association (TTA). The Executive Director reports directly to the TTA Board President and is accountable to the board through the Board President. The Executive Director is responsible for managing the programs, operations, finances, and staff of the TTA. The Executive Director serves as the primary liaison between the TTA board, the membership, state and federal agencies, state and federal government, and other transit industry associations.

Essential Job Functions and Duties
  • Prepares for the Association board meetings and assists the President in the administration of all board and committee meeting

  • Prepares board agendas, informs board members of meetings, prepares documentation of all board meetings and board actions

  • Is accountable to the board members and board committees through the Board President

  • Carries out special assignments as directed

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of the Association

  • Supervises Association

  • Provides oversight/supervision for Interns, Vendors, Consultants and any Staff working with or for the association.

  • Directs and/or supervises the work of the Association lobbyist or lobby team.

  • Implements the legislative agenda of the Association and the board at both the state and federal levels

  • Develops the Association budget, implements and directs expenditures under an approved budget

  • Manages all financial activities of the Association to include: requesting quotations, paying monthly bills, reconcile credit cards and bank statements/charges

  • Maintains membership relations to include membership recruiting and retention

  • Leads membership through advocacy and information sharing to strengthen and expand the Association

  • Prepares and disseminates information through correspondence, newsletters, directories, and Web sites monthly or more frequently when required.

  • Manages all aspects of the bi-annual legislative conference and other Association special events

  • Researches and interprets legislative and regulatory mandates for the Association membership

  • Other duties as assigned, including the execution of contracts

  • Provide a weekly report of daily activities


Liaison
  • Acts as a spokesperson for the Association to members, the media, government agencies, and elected officials

  • Establishes a positive working relationship with both Texas Department of Transportation and Federal Transit Administration staff

  • Serves as liaison with other transportation related associations and groups at the local, regional and national level

  • Attends and actively engages in other transit industry related meeting, conferences and committees to represent the Texas Transit Association

  • Makes presentations to the Texas Transportation Commission and State Legislature on issues pertaining to transportation funding and policy

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to work with a board of diverse individuals

  • Ability to work alone with minimal supervision

  • Excellent oral presentation skills

  • Able to compose clear and concise written correspondence to include professional letters, reports, emails, newsletters, and legislative documentation

  • Possess organization skills that permit working efficiently on several projects and programs simultaneously

  • Ability to work with elected officials at the federal, state, and local level

  • Ability to work with federal and state agency officials and employees and develop highly effective working relationships

  • Ability to prepare and present complex data and/or information regarding the Association and the transit industry

  • Ability to plan, organize and conduct conferences and meetings

  • Ability to read, write and analyze government legislation, policy and regulations

  • Ability to create and maintain a budget for the Association

Working Conditions
  • Worksite Location: Austin, Texas

  • Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Irregular working hours frequently required

  • Out-of-Town and/or Overnight Travel: Frequently, Cost Effectively and adhering to the Travel policy

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a reliable transportation

  • May be subject to a criminal record check
