Trinity Metro has an immediate opening for a
Director of Government Relations. The Director of Government Relations will manage the organization’s governmental and intergovernmental relationships, through two contract lobbyists, one each at the federal (Washington, DC) and state (Austin) levels and works directly with governmental officials.
This position’s responsibilities include: - Work with Board of Directors and Staff to develop strategic legislative plan for FWTA, including Federal, State, regional and local initiatives.
- Implement legislative plan.
- Recommends, directs and evaluates outside consultants, including the Federal and State contract lobbyists and coordination with other agencies’ lobbyists.
- Analyze legislation. Provides interpretation of legislative issues and position statements.
- Reads, evaluates, distributes and organizes grant related documents, including but not limited to funding opportunities, federal circulars, and federal register, executive orders and procedures manuals. Concisely summarizes complex materials for others.
- Establishes relationships and rapport with elected officials and their staffs.
- Initiates and maintains ongoing communications with legislators, decision makers and key legislative officials to advocate transit and FWTA’s projects and to secure funding.
- Represents FWTA at meetings with the Board of Directors, legislative staff members, public and private sector organizations and other external groups.
- Analyzes and evaluates complex policy issues and makes recommendations on actions to be taken.
- Prepares complex reports, documents and correspondence.
- Maintains confidentiality of information.
- Reliable and consistent attendance.
EDUCATION Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Business, Political Science, Public Relations or closely related field.
Any combination of experience, training and/or education that provides the required knowledge, abilities, and skills may substitute for the required education.
EXPERIENCE Five to ten years of progressive experience in a Government Relations role.
