The Greater Portland Transit District (Metro) is seeking a Human Resources Director.

Metro is a growing regional transit agency that provides public transit service to the municipalities of Brunswick, Falmouth, Freeport, Portland, South Portland, Westbrook and Yarmouth. Metro will have 90-100 employees beginning in mid-2018, operates 40-50 buses and accommodates over 1.85 million boardings per year.

Metro’s top asset is its employees and we are seeking a Human Resources professional who can help the agency build a safe and high-quality transit system, maintain a healthy and productive work environment, meet customer expectations, and build transit ridership.

The Human Resources Director will be a generalist with the knowledge and ability to manage and directly administer all aspects of the human resources function. However, Metro is a small agency so the HR Director is expected to perform most required tasks with the assistance of a Payroll-Benefits Coordinator.

The Human Resources Director reports to the General Manager and is a member of the senior management team.

Successful candidates will meet the following qualifications:

• Experience – Five or more years of progressively responsible related experience in a position of comparable scope, or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the Human Resources Director. Public sector and labor union experience desirable.

• Education – Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Human Resources, Public or Business Administration, Communications, or other related field required. A Bachelor’s Degree may be substituted by an additional 4 years of directly related experience.

• Computer Skills - Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience with personnel software applications.

• Other Requirements - Must hold or be able to acquire a valid Maine driver’s license. Must be able to handle confidential information. The salary range for this position is $73,565-$102,639 (awaiting Board of Director's Approval). Starting salary will be dependent on qualifications. In addition, Metro offers a generous benefits package consisting of health, dental, life insurance; vacation and medical leave benefits; 401a and 457 retirement programs.
