EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related discipline is required. Ten years of progressively responsible experience in the inspection and testing of mechanical, electromechanical and electronic equipment with a minimum of four years managing/directing maintenance and repair of vertical transportation (elevator/escalator) operations are required. Experience must include use of electronic instrumentation, test equipment and recording systems. Experience with Safety Codes for elevator and escalators ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) A17.1 and A17.3 is preferred. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Georgia is preferred. Certification as an elevator QEI (Qualified Elevator Inspector) is preferred. Extensive knowledge of contract development and administration principles to include budget development, design review, contract document preparation, bid evaluation, recommendations to award, contract testing, and final acceptance is required. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are required. Directly related work experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis in-lieu of educational requirement.

SUMMARY

Directs MARTA’s Vertical Transportation Program (Elevators and Escalators) to include the administration and oversight of maintenance and repair of MARTA’s elevators and escalators in all Rail Stations, Facilities and capital rehabilitation programs. Directs activities in the design, preparation, advertisement, and award of elevator and escalator maintenance and repair contracts. Ensures contractors comply with contract technical specifications and requirements, as well as with any federal, state, city and local government requirement, ordinances, codes, and all applicable safety requirements. Develops and implements performance standards and goals to ensure that operational, maintenance and administrative functions are executed at optimum performance levels. Follows, promotes, and monitors metrics to ensure established elevator and escalator safety programs/procedures designed to protect the public, employees or MARTA’s equipment are followed. Works closely on a routine basis with Safety and Quality Assurance personnel, Project and Resident Engineers, Project and Construction Managers to ensure information on the status of elevator/escalator facilities is up-to-date. Develops reviews and implements operating and capital budget plans and provides performance-based feedback.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
