Summary

The South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (SFRTA), a tri-county public transit authority serving Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, is seeking an Operations Manager to ensure the efficient and effective provision of the agencies commuter rail and bus services through contract management and compliance, coordination with state and local governments and various vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of Project Managers to ensure SFRTA’s operations and maintenance providers perform their contract required duties and deliver exceptional results. These include station maintenance, fleet maintenance, and Commuter Connector (feeder/shuttle bus) service. 
  • Monitor the Customer Service Call Center and Station Agent units and assist the Supervisors in planning, formulating and developing service policies and procedure; ensuring delivery of excellent service and customer satisfaction. 
  • Assist in accident/incident investigation, including participation in conference calls and any needed on-site assistance and support to safety and security personnel. 
  • Monitor contractor adherence to FTA, FDOT, FRA and NTSB policies and regulations, and all other applicable policies and regulations. 
  • Manage and maintain an effective working partnership with contractor Train Operations, Mechanical and MOW functions so their activities deliver outputs required for On Time Performance of train service delivery.
  • Ensure staff is trained properly, have the tools necessary to perform their duties, follow company guidelines and policies, perform the job satisfactorily, and provide feedback on a regular basis.

Required Qualifications 

  • Strong communication skills including the ability to express ideas and information clearly (verbally and in writing), write performance evaluations, memos and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and the ability to make verbal presentation to boards and committees. 
  • Understanding of investigatory skills (Root Cause Analysis) and business improvement processes. 
  • Experience with FRA operations compliance. 
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and database programming/management skills. 

Required Education/Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Engineering, Business or related field from an accredited university or college. 
  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience in transit related work in rail operations and maintenance; to include three (3) years of staff supervisory, budgetary and management responsibilities. 
  • Or any combination of education, training and progressively responsible work experience which provides the required skill sets to perform the essential functions of the position. 

Preferred Education/Experience 

  • Additional years of progressively responsible professional experience in transit operations management to include five (5) years of staff supervisory, budgetary and management responsibilities. 

Other Requirement(s)

  • Possession of a valid Florida license or ability to obtain such within three (3) months.
